The left side of the political spectrum frequently rants about big oil and Walmart.
Exxon's profit margin is about 8%. Walmart's profit margin is less than 4%.
Apple's profit margin is about 26%.
Almost all of Apple's products are manufactured outside the US. Apple is sitting on almost $80B of cash. It makes $208 for each $499 iPad, and $449 on each $899 iPad. The profit margins are obscene. Apple only employs about 46,000 people worldwide. Apple's Chinese suppliers have been documented as suicidal because of difficult working conditions. Apple's addictive products are essentially thrown away every two years as their loyal buyers constantly upgrade when new devices are introduced.
Why do lefties never criticize Apple? They are the poster child for obscene profits, corporate secrecy, and offshore manufacturing.

Maybe because Apple is not a cartel who dictates US policy and puppeteer lawmakers.
And nothing screams more than "buy me now and love me" than Apple, regardless of the fact that (outside of their phones), they typically put out an inferior product for almost double the price.
Which, again, speaks to the general idiocy of America.
And yes, the right wing does exhibit this idiocy as well.

If what you say is true, then wouldn't Exxon and Walmart have obscene profits, move their workers offshore, not give Americans jobs, and secure massive tax breaks?
Oil companies do benefit from tax incentives. I think they should go away. But I think just about all incentives, including personal ones, should go away. But Apple puts more money in the bank in 3 months than the entire oil industry gains in a year of tax incentives (about $4B worth).
Tim Cook said in January of this year that Apple makes $625 per iPhone sold when carrier subsidies are included.

I've always wondered how much consumer debt and interest Apple is responsible for. Like if they never existed, how much more money and less debt would people have. And alternatively, how much of their profit is based on consumer debt.
The libs may have switched sides when it comes to WalMart. Walmart hired ex-Dick Durbin staffer Melissa Merz as a lobbyist. From there they pushed thru the new debit card regs that took millions out of BOA pockets while stuffing WalMart's pockets. The left virtually unanimously cheered. It looks like WalMart is no longer the demon it once was, in the eyes of the left. You can thank Wal-Mart for your new debit-card fee « Hot Air Headlines

I believe oil industry profit was around $38 billion on the 1st quarter alone, and if the government throws in another $4B a year, then I don't know what to tell you. There is more to it than just plain profits. No one hates profits per se. It is about the big oil making huge profits on a produce that is considered a necessity, - like food. People pay $4.00 per gallon and are hurting, and then they see big oil post record profits time after time, and they know it's from their pockets. You don't have to buy an IPhone, but you have to buy gas. There is a big difference.

My only problem with WalMart is that almost everything they sell is made in China. That's why I almost never shop there (maybe once every other month) ... and when I do it's to buy stuff like aspirin and crackers and mouthwash - which is not made in China.
