The problem is the right attempts to use words and concepts most of the followers don't understand. Their leaders know they don't grasp the concept, but fear and anger work best with a few tidy catch phrases. If you used "mixed market economy" they would be lost.

FOX keeps it simple "socialist". They aren't really sure what it means, but it sounds bad. It is the impetus that drives them to tea party rally in the PUBLIC park, using CITY STREETS, to hold up the signs stating "Keep the government out of my Medicare".

With the worthless 'funny-money' of the US, plus unemployment, and all it's other problems, I don't see the US as a sparkling poster child for Capitalism!

We have to define what you mean by "socialism".

You cannot have large cities without some form of wealth redistribution. And without large cities, you cannot have large-scale industry. Without large-scale industry, you cannot have a wealthy modern economy.

Without some form of wealth redistribution, you really can't even have a "nation". Other things necessary for a nation; A public-education system and a national Army.

And a couple other necessities for a modern nation-state, a "Fiat currency"(IE a debt-based central banking system), and corporate/industrial subsidies and protections. If it weren't true, then someone would be successful without all these things.

The "most successful" countries, are those countries ruled by a plutocracy. As Alexander Hamilton said, "Those who own the country, should run the country". When an oligarchy of big-business runs the country, they run the country like a business, and thus they maximize profits(IE economic growth). And in this world, money is everything. It doesn't matter if you're in America, China, or Sweden.

The main problem with socialism, is that it isn't run by plutocrats, it is run by intellectuals. And intellectuals aren't very good at profit-maximization, or manipulating international trade to their advantage.

Corporatism is the most successful government on Earth. But who actually claims to like corporatism?

I hate it with a fiery passion, and I would rather live in poverty than be ruled by a bunch of money-obsessed sociopaths.

Look at all that diversity! You may as well list the 10 countries with the most white people. Actually, lets see..

Denmark: 93% white
Norway: 89% white
Switzerland: 96% white
Netherlands: 82% white
Sweden: 84% white
Canada: 79% white
Finland: 96% white
Austria: 91% white
Iceland: 97% white
Australia: 91% white

Boy, is diversity a scam or what?

The U.S. is also a "social democracy" to a fair extent. And this kind of society does seem to suit white people of nothern European origin. It works - when the majority are bright and productive. Otherwise not so much.

Also, the United States still ranks among the highest for child poverty rates,
with one in five children living in poverty. This was only exceeded in Poland,
Mexico and Turkey.
I like this unironic reference to Mexico.

Why does Common Dreams suppose that child poverty in the U.S. is so high? Might the fact that America is full of poor Mexicans have anything to do with it?

Socialism causes economic stagnation wherever it is implemented. It has caused the economic collapse of several places. Right now, Venezuela, Argentina and Brazil are good examples of that. Zimbabwe is another good example of how you can ruin an economy in a few years by implementing socialist policies.

People who think Sweden, Denmark and other Scandinavian countries are examples to be followed are fools. The Swedish system will collapse economically in the next 10-15 years because they keep bringing in refugees and the economy does not even generate enough jobs for natives much less immigrants.

In Sweden, you have a large amount of overqualified people doing menial jobs, many going from unemployment to part time employment throughout their lives and several immigrants unemployed for live living on wellfare, it is just a matter of time before the bomb explodes.

Socialism works in Norway. But they have a huge infusion of cash every month from oil revenue and they are protected by NATO.

I think there is a hybrid of capitalism and socialism that would be ideal. Socialized roads work great, socialized schools USED to work great and I think they could again if the states take back control. I also think socialized medicine would work great.

There are many ways to make a million dollars in America, medicine should not be one of them.

Educate yourselves. We are not capitalist. We are a mixed market economy. We have more capitalism than socialism in our market for sure, but there are other countries with more socialism that are equally or more successful on a per capita basis.

The goal is to find the perfect balance between the two... not to have one or the other. The world isn't black and white as much as conservatives try to make it out to be.
I found the perfect balance. More time for me, less jobs for you. As a business owner, when the amount of money taken from me is too much I then stopped investing to grow the company that could have resulted in hiring more employee's. I really don't see a point in working harder to make more money when such a big chunk is taken from me.

Tom Woods had a podcast where he talked about socialism in Sweden (and Scandinavia in general) and one pretty shocking statistic was that there have been exactly 0....0 private sector jobs created in the last x number of years. I forget how many years it was so ill have to look it up again, but it was pretty crazy.
