The U.S. Congress spells it out, right here:
Quote:
"In summary, for tax year 2009, approximately 22 percent of all tax units, including filers and non filers, will have zero income tax liability, approximately 30% will receive a refundable credit, and approximately 49% will have a positive income tax liability."
http://finance.senate.gov/newsroom/r...1-ffc00b5c00ef

According to the U.S. Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation, only 49% of income earners pay any federal income tax.

22% either don't pay or get everything they did pay refunded when they file their tax return, 30% get back MORE than they ever paid in (redistribution of wealth), and only 49% have a net liability of anything above $0 in federal income tax.

What about that do you not understand?

Because of the current progressive tax system, the poor, working class, and many considered middle class pay zero (or close to zero) in income tax. They account for about 40% of the country.

MSNBC has it wrong. 51% pay no federal income tax whatsoever. 30% actually get additional money FROM the federal government.

Yes but it requires something liberal from people like mmm (whatever) to even attempt to look at their position differently...

I don't care if I have to pick coke cans up off the side of the road to get by. I am NOT entitled to the money other people have made, many of whom worked their way up from nothing--like Steve Jobs--to get to where they are. They started with an idea, a passion, and true grit. They deserve their success. They DO not deserve to have you people haranguing them into a corner, demanding that they support you and yours because you are feel you're entitled to the fruits of their labor, simply because you exist on planet Earth.

Thank God for these entrepreneurs. It is because of one of them that I have a job to go to every day--something I am not, by the way, entitled to have.
You do realize that the vast majority of those 47% do have jobs, or are retired from long term jobs, they work very hard, they contribute the majority, or all of their income to the economy, they buy whatever you sell to earn a high enough income to be required to pay FIT, they support entrepeneurs by buying products, and services. They also pay a large percentage of their income to other taxes, and it hurts A LOT more when the income is smaller.

You are perfectly welcome to get a lower paying job so you don't have to pay FIT, but you better realize you will be struggling to pay all the other taxes people pay, and struggling to support your family. Whatever luxuries your high income affords you will be gone, AND you will be insulted and called a freeloader by the ignorant.

I own a business and pay lots of taxes including FIT, but I am not so arrogant that I think I do it all alone. I get to know those who buy my services and keep me in business, they are all working, some 2 jobs, many are struggling to get by while constantly worrying about the next layoff, life is not fair for them either, they would trade you salaries in a heartbeat, and pay their taxes without whining and throwing out insults. As I have said, I am all for tax reform but this insulting nonsense is disgusting!

The problem is that they DON'T contribute to the costs incurred by the federal government of the country IN WHICH THEY LIVE via the federal income tax. They're freeloading off the 49% who DO pay federal income tax. 30% are even getting more money FROM the federal government than they pay TO the federal government.

Why should a burger flipper pay more federal income tax than 51 percent of Americans?

How many are kids with summer or after school jobs, and how many are seniors living on Social Security, and how much tax would you like them to pay?

Why should anyone pay any federal income tax at all? Abolish it. Shrink the federal government.
