The biggest drawback of "every man (but NOT women) for himself" is simply humans are pack hunters. Organization is what really sets humans aside from other critters. The lone individual has to be protected from the pack by a set of rules. Government is a very large example of organized rules. Without government the "Lone Rangers" do not last very long. The "Lone Rangers" of the world simply do not want to pay their share of the cost of protecting them. Too damn bad. Pay up or declare yourself outside the law.
