bush 1 and 2 were rino's, that didn't stop them from winning! for decades the people have voted for the least objectionable candidate!
I think that Obama broke that string as so many people really accepted his hope and change and after it was too late many of them found out that he wasn't the least dangerous.
Well over time I guess people long for what they had because they don't like what they have now. So they start to idealize and turn them into heroes. The party bases always want red meat, and they want a liberal/conservative crusader but in reality most of America is in the middle and our politicians govern like that. George McGovern couldn't win and Sam Brownback couldn't get any traction in the Presidential race last time. Ideologues may fire up the base but most Americans don't want an extremist in the White House.
The Dems drove me out of their party after more than 20 years of voting for them when they nominated McGovern. He was too much of a socialist for me.
Does everyone agree that Romney is a RINO? Is Jabba the Hut that influential in the right wing world?
Yes, he is a RINO. He has always been a RINO pretending to be conservative. 2008 wasn't that long ago. Are memories that short on his flip flopping? He didn't get elected to be Governor of Massachusetts because he was conservative.
Except for Rush, all of the other NY/DC media are now falling all over Romney but where were they when he first announced? Too busy courting a string of different candidates who told them "no." Now he's all of a sudden Cinderella at the ball.

what does it mean to be conservative? is it the same thing as republican?
i don't think they are mutually exclusive nor do i think a person needs to be one to be the other.
the GOP used to stand for small business, smart regulation, controlled government spending, and for the people.... eg. Teddy, Nixon, Reagan, Bush 1)
what is it today? the most successful presidents are those that are moderates and can bring consensus between the elected congress and get things done. since the mid-90's, the ability to draw consensus has been severly hampered.

...and hampered it should be! most of what the federal govt does should be state functions. most states want different things. to force all of them to accept one policy is a recipe for discontent.
problem is that we've become so institutionalized that we believe that certain functions can only be carried out by the feds.
Limbaugh will do a 180 when Romney wins the nomination. Remember James "I won't support John McCain if he wins the nomination!" Dobson?
McCain won the nomination.
Dobson supported him.
Limbaugh will fall in line, proclaim Romney to be conservative, and that will be that. If the GOP nominated Casey Anthony, Limbaugh would proclaim her the second-coming of Ronald Reagan...
Why do people who never listen to Limbaugh always seem to feel compelled to comment about him? If you listened during the 08 campaign, Limbaugh didn't 'fall in line' regarding McCain. I was never a fan of McCain (especially after McCain-Feingold passed), but some of Limbaugh's attacks even made me cringe. Limbaugh especially loved to imitate McCain's voice.
So, who IS conservative enough for the doctor shopping, pill popping Mr. Limpdick?
Since I'd rather watch paint peel than listen to or, god forbid, WATCH Rush, I'm not up on which of the republi-con candidates he endorses.
I don't know if it will have an impact or not. The repubs seems to be all over the place with these candidates and there just doesn't seem to be any kind of a united front supporting any one in particular.
Maybe Whalin' Palin will change her mind.
If you would rather watch 'paint dry' than listen to Limbaugh or watch him...then how do you expect to intelligently comment on what he has to say?
If you want to rely on the media like MSNBC to tell you what to think, then you are doing yourself a disservice. You should listen...especially to views opposite of your own ....so that maybe you can get a different perspective and understand a different point of view. Not that you will change your thinking at all....but an understanding of WHY people see things differently.
