At best they are an unreliable client state kept alive by our “aid” payments of billions of dollars per year.
So tell us how is it "aid" if nearly all of it is required to be spent on weapons from the United States. Wouldn't this be more of an indirect welfare program for US companies that build weapons?

I don't think it's unpatriotic at all to question whether we should stop giving aid to Israel. If you watched the Republican debate yesterday you will have heard Ron Paul stating we should stop all foreign aid because we're broke. It was obviously not a popular thing to say in front of that crowd and his opponents played to that by pandering to them and saying it's our duty to send money to Israel. I doubt half of them could point to Israel on a map.

I am a firm supporter of Israel but I agree with Dr Paul that we are too broke to send aid overseas. Israel is a sovereign country and this aid gives many here in the US reason to think there are strings attached with the aid.

But as someone else pointed out, much of the aid is in the form of weapons manufactured by American factories. If the aid stops, the jobs go away.

and yes israel is an oppressive regime, they are worse than hitler and the Nazis.

The Nazis moved the Jews into ghetto's.

The Israelis keep the Palestinians in death camps and use them for shooting practice.

How many Palestinians have been killed so far, as far as I'm aware of the Israelis have killed 6 million Palestinians.

I gather you are one of the 450 or so Palestinian terrorists just released in exchange for one man. How does it feel that your government values your freedom so little?

They are like Puerto Rico, most of the benefits and none of the taxes.

It's not that Israel needs the US, but more likely quite the opposite. The US needs Israel to keep it's foot in the Middle East. Otherwise, why would the US support Israel with aid as well as failing to acknowledge Israel's violations of international law and human rights - over and over and over. At one point Israel had a fair argument as to needing support, but that time has past. Now all Israel does is pi$$ on the back of the US and telling them it's raining. And the US just doesn't know when to get out of the rain.

It's more or less a given that Puerto Rico will become the 51st state. Long Island is a possible 52nd if it chooses so in the expected 2014 status referendum.

we arent supporting Isreal. We are bribing them.
We are paying them to NOT destroy everyone else in the region.

Isreal is the only thing keeping the peace in the middle-east.

Yeah but England and Canada didn't attack our ship in 1967 and then tried to get in cohorts with the president of the U.S. and sink the ship. Our allies don't try and steal military secrets from us either. Oh and they also don't commit genocide and use banned military explosives.

Take the US out of the equation and let Israel go on it's own - do you really believe that Israel will continue to "keep the peace"? Just how do you suppose they will manage that?

We gave him life in prison for not stealing American secrets.

Jonathan Jay Pollard was a Naval Intelligence analyst arrested for espionage. He used his access to classified libraries and computer systems to collect a huge amount of information on Soviet weapons systems and the military capabilities of Arab countries.

Why worry about our allies when we have had over 150 Americans who've been caught selliing secrets for a profit. Thats Capitalism for you.
