Default Black radio host, Tom Joyner: Blacks need to vote for Obama because he is black

A recent Washington Post story explores the overt racial appeals being made by prominent black personalities, like radio host Tom Joyner for Blacks to stick together as a race and vote to re-elect Obama because he is a black man. Apart from the mockery that makes of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s appeal that Americans be judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin such blantant appeals to race carries very real risks for minority candidates. Since Blacks comprise only about 10% of the voting public racial-based voting leaves them at a decided disadvantage. Imagine the implications if a white radio host urged his or her listeners to vote for the white Republican nominee only because he or she happened to be white.

I think it is incumbent upon Obama to disavow Joyner and any other Black personality that makes these racial appeals on his behalf. Failure to do so risks setting back by 50 years whatever semblance of racial harmony we have achieved in the years since Jim Crow.

Bullsh#t.

It's not incumbent upon Obama to disavow a damn thing. And even if he did, no one is stupid enough to believe that it would do a damn thing for "racial harmony."

Tom Joyner is a radio host for a private broadcaster. If what he says is so offensive, then get his ass thrown off the air. But it's not the presidents job to disavow him just to make you happy.

I mean, this crap about "setting back racial harmony" is a load of bull. I've lived quite harmoniously with whites, Hispanics, and Asian folks pretty much all of my life. If you can't manage to live in harmony with folks that are different than yourself, then that's your problem, but don't put that on Obama.

.....does it matter?

You can vote for whomever you want so long as you're eligible to vote. Reasons are a personal matter.

Why would Obama do that? He has done more to create racial and class warfare than any president in this history of this great nation!

Since when does anyone know the character of a politician? Part of their job is literally lying.....

Correct it's not incumbent upon him but he gets involved in other private issues...

Remember obama and the white college players that were accused of raping a black woman?

It wasn't incumbent upon him then but he sure stuck his 2 cents into the issue...

And the charge was found to be a lie by the black woman...

So lets knock off the hypocrisy...

It would show many people he won't put up with bigoted comments by blacks....

But of course we see what obama stands for and it sure as hell isn't racial equality...

Are you telling me that if a white radio personality urged whites to vote for the white candidate because that candidate is white that there wouldn't be impassioned calls for the beneficiary of that kind of race-baiting to repudiate it and the radio personality who engaged in it? Now that's "Bullsh#t." You seem to forget the firestorm generated by the comments of radio personality Bill Cunningham who, in his introduction of McCain at a campaign rally in 2008 three times referred to "Barack Hussein Obama." McCain had no choice but to repudiate both Cunningham and his remarks. Why is it that the outrage flows only in one direction?

My wife listens to Joyner, so I have to endure some days.

He is your basic cheerleader type. He can't even support blacks who are discontent about the job situation. When Obama was touring the white communities on his Canadian armored bus, and passing by the black communities, and leaders were starting to make waves - Joyner was almost on his knees pleading for blacks to stay aboard the Obama bus.

Joyner is working hard to keep black people from splintering away from Obama.

At least Smiley, West, etc. will ride him when blacks are pushed aside or ignored.
