I work with religiously observant Muslims. I've had several conversations with them about how they adapt their customs to American culture. Everyone of them has told me it is perfectly OK to pray at other times because living here life doesn't stop at the 5 daily prayer times. These Somali employees could do the same.
If they want to live in Muslim country let them move to one. America isn't and is under no obligation to provide them with the opportunity to adhere to the idiotic restrictions of their chosen cult.
Exactly well said. Their employers are under no obligation in any way, to provide them with prayer breaks.
They can't adhere to our ways, and the way things are done in this Country as far as work, and prayer. Maybe they should stay in their own Country.
Our we suppose to change our ways and our culture, for all Muslims who are working in this Country, can't follow the rules or the guidelines of your employer, then leave.
Think this has to do more with some muslims not wanting to punch out for prayer time, and taking to long a prayer break, they can't just do what they want.
My last job, the crew I managed (20ish) got x3 paid (scheduled) 15 minute breaks through out the day. I'm not saying it's the norm, but I'm saying it happens / not uncommon.
It would be interesting to actually know how accommodating / exactly how it was handled (by both parties) but short of being there to see / hear it first hand we'll never know. Needed details are inherently missing from the article.
Washington law requires a total of ten minutes of paid break after four hours of work. If the company allows a longer break, than that's their discretion. If the employee does not want to follow the company rules, the company has every right to discipline the employee.
Since the company is requiring the employees to clock out after the paid ten minutes, their position is clear. They are actually going beyond and allowing the employees additional time off, just not paid time off.
The company is using too much logic in requiring that all employees follow the same set of rules. What's that I hear? It's the ACLU calling. Gotta go...
Should they have prayer breaks?
Should religion & work be separate?
I think religion & work should be separated.
I think anyone would agree that they should be able to do what they want on thier breaks, but if they don't clock out then they should have to do whatever the company tells them.
I still dont understand why they allow Somalis into the country. Their culture is the complete antithesis to American culture. I see no benefit to the country from them being here.
More left-wing voters for you know who.
