Well here is one example of who we (our government) backed. I'll ask again who are these rebels? I've yet to get an answer from anyone.
"There is no firm number of blacks being held in Tripoli, but one rebel commander said that about 5,000 prisoners were being detained in several locations around the city. Human rights groups believe the number is much higher and have raised the alarm about the conditions in which prisoners are being held, as well as concern over the safety of all blacks in Libya. The African Union has withheld recognition of the National Transitional Council, taking them to task for what they view as a racist detention policy. And the NTC has rejected a UN offer of peacekeeping troops to “monitor” the situation."

This is what NATO and the African Union should be addressing. The rebels taking over the country are probably not much better than Khadafis Army and possibly worse.

So will Obama send in the drones to take out the rebels in favor of a new set of rebels ?
These are the rebels the US backed with air power. These are the rebels the US wanted to put in power.
Now we find out just who these rebels are.

Another good reason to stay out of another country's business.

The US didn't "want" to put these guys in power. They - and Europe - just saw an opportunity to get rid of a guy who was a well-known royal terrorist pain and seized it...figured they'd rather roll the dice than continue to deal with that guy. I'm sure they'd love to turn the place into another a nice, functional society and peaceful political processes, but no one is that naive about it. It's not like there is a choice.
If the people of Iran rebelled and tried to take out Ahmadinejad, you can bet America would try to help out there behind the scenes too once it reached critical mass...even though they couldn't control the aftermath.
It's much cheaper to take out known terrorist headaches when all you have to do is offer a bit of air support to the natives who are at a point where they are willing to do the real bloody work...as opposed to occupying the place with a million US soldiers who do the dying and the fighting for a decade - and still not being able to control who ends up in power anyways once they inevitably leave.

The rebels are worse. The new government is putting in Sharia law, overturning the ban on polygamy etc. We should have never gotten involved.
Sometimes I wonder if Obama, NATO etc have a hidden agenda to make the Middle East as Islamist and non-secular as possible. Everything we do there has that result.
