I have to think there is a majority in both parties who don't subscribe to conspiracy theories, internet chain mail and partisan talking points. I'm not sure where the far right thinks they are going with the whole dis-mantle government / dems are socialists theme but it sure is tiring.
That is a good point. Back when I was a Republican, I just gritted my teeth and accepted the right-wing social values platform, as a compromise, because I believed that they were a fiscally conservative party that understood financial matters.

Buffett's famous quote is, "It is only when the tide goes out that you know who has been swimming naked." Once the financial crisis hit, it was clear to me that the Republicans were the ones who had been swimming naked, encouraging America to increase its public and private debt to unsustainable levels. It is also clear that their supply side policies simply redistribute money to the wealthy, and that the growth of the past few decades was actually driven by unsustainable expansion of private debt.

The fact that they blame the crisis on Fannie, Freddie, and the CRA, while pretending that Wall Street is innocent, is just the icing on the cake.

What views? Are you close to retirement? Then you have no worries. If you're over 10 years from retirement, you won't HAVE Social Security when you retire anyway.

You're totally dependent on SS? Wow, poor planning. I'm almost 50, and have known MY WHOLE ADULT LIFE that SS won't be there for me.

Fear of the eight nutcase Republicans running against him? That would be my guess.

This is the best response I've read on any forum, anywhere....

Give the country someone better and we'll vote for them.. Until then what do you expect. Keep parading these bands of idiots in front of the nation and it makes the entire Republican party look like a bunch of circus freaks.. Even if the R's found someone worth voting for the odds of them getting elected are slim based on the 8 yrs of BS the entire country suffered through under Bush. The country won't forget so quickly. My guess is Obama is easily going to win another term.

As for myself. I'm in much better shape financially than I was during the bush reign of stupidity so something is working.

"Why would any sane person want Obama reelected?"

Because the Republican alternatives are far worse.

End of Story.

I take it that you haven't heard any of Obama's plan to put Fannie and Freddie back in control by his actions outside Congress. Surely you have heard about what he is telling mortgage payers these days. Today he plans to try to buy even more votes by promising to pay off college debts. Run on and on about the Republicans and their supply side plans, at least they were done within the law and Obama is skirting Congress which is outside the law.

The alternatives are:

Cain -- whose tax plan would raise taxes on the bottom 84%, while lowering taxes on billionaires.

Romney -- who isn't pro-choice but multiple-choice, on every issue he's been on both sides.

Perry -- who couldn't think himself out of the restroom and is pro-life, except when it comes to executions.

Bachmann -- who essentially repeats talking points from the 80s and who believes "facts" that aren't facts.

Paul -- who wants to return the nation to the 19th century 'when everything was wonderful.' That means the gold standard, out-of-pocket health care -- basically, you are on your own.

and this, although i didn't see any details of the plan.

i'm not seeing where Obama is 'skirting congress.' I hear people making this accusation, but they don't seem too concerned about explaining their position.

even if i buy into what you're saying, i don't see what it has to do with supply side economics.

How many of those idiots would call the Constitution what Obama has called it while going round Congress with his dictatorial methods? I guess none of them talk about skirting Congress, as he does, and would stay within Constitutional limits must be what you don't like.

If Obama is going to win so easily I wonder why he is admittedly trying to buy votes from "property owners" with all his economic help and paying the college loans of that age group that elected him in 2008. Boy are there a lot of votes in those two groups and he just can't get Congress to go along with him and he needs those votes.

There are two very bi-partisan statements, don't you think?

No, we know Wall Street is to blame for this too but the two in combination and the gigantic Ponzi scheme is what is the problem. And it all started with the government and CRA And Fannie Mae & Freddie. You are a classic liberal, if you repeat the lie long enough it becomes true to you. But you cannot re-write history as much as you would like to do so.
