Well, here's something I've discovered over the years.
Whenever you start to discuss politics and you find shortcomings with someone's political party, they never defend. Instead, they counter with "Well, the OTHER guys...." In short, they can't defend their own party. All they know how to do is deflect.
Essentially what we have now are two rivals gangs that don't give a rip about the country, but only about funneling money to a small cadre of supporters. If either political party saw its platform fully realized, you'd likely have a bankrupt totalitarian state. Yet there are millions of credulous, knuckle-dragging fools who actually go into the voting booth and pull the lever for one party. Can somebody please explain this phenomenon?
This, from the so-called "open minded, tolerant" party.
Um, this isn't really an "attack the other party" kind of thread. The question is, what do you think of straight ticket voting...but then I can guess what your answer might be.
Republican or Democrat, do you find yourself looking for the lobotomy scars? I do.
I think that's a pretty harsh assessment to make. Not everyone has a desire to learn about each candidate in every little race. Political party associations at least give us an idea of the candidate's priorities and philosophies.
I absolutely do, OP. Party loyalists of both stripes are, by and large, ignorant. I do not enjoy discussing anything with a parrot, as one cannot learn from a parrot. All the party affiliation does is allow a small amount of credence for a bunch of people who are loyal only to whatever greases their palm.

Really? If anything I was being nice. The words lazy, uninformed, or even cynical come to mind.
How hard could it possibly be to learn about the candidates? You are a citizen, which means you have a duty to understand the candidates. I mean, how hard can it be to spend 10-15 minutes a day reading the newspaper leading up to an election? Otherwise, you're just trusting whatever one gang of thugs say about the other gang of thugs. You might as well be putting your trust in the Crips or the Bloods.

Only if they pull the democrat lever.
