Genrally, in our society, to talk about suicide is a taboo. For that reason, anything to do with suicide receives little attention. Not many people care about suicide among civilians or the military. A sad commentary on our society.
And most of the treatment is lip service anyway.
One way to deter this action is to stop the stupid wars that we're involved in and leave the world alone.
We could take care of all US citizens if we'd dump the war industry.
What disgusts me is that this only every comes up when it involves the military; suicide happens on the civilian side, too.
Yeledaf, thanks for sharing about your experience with it. I use the civilian version of it, daily, at least once a day. Recently I failed to use it one morning and later in that day I noticed that my mind was chattier, just going on and on, not as peaceful as it has been much of the time. In fact, I was so lost in thought sometimes that I could've had a minor accident around the house, or something.
It really, really works, and some of the folks with the worst problems notice the biggest changes.

I've tried quite a few times on the civilian side(check my thread history)...with Teen suicides....Gay suicides....etcetera...the "haters" always flame the threads and they get locked.
Also my opening post mentioned suicide in general and gave links to....."older white male suicide....Gay teen suicides....Black female teen suicides and 2 links to suicide help/prevention groups.
So I don't understand your post!
I thought using Veterans to bring up a discussion about suicide would elicit more sane responses....it has not.
You know what they do after you get back from deployment? Powerpoint presentations...Yes, death by Powerpoint.
Suicide Prevention in some units is a joke.
I had 2 buddies who committed suicide in Iraq. One was 20 and the other 21. I was told one of them wanted to get help but was told there was nothing they could do for him until he got back stateside.
It happens more often than not. Sometimes they tell you to suck it up...or call you weak and a POS. Some people are really mean. Apparently you are not allowed to have feelings once you sign on the dotted line.
You know what pis ses me off the most? The whole "We Support the Troops" talk. It is nothing but lip service! Once they come back from over there (or get out of the Military) very few people care.

I'm sure it is...otherwise we would not have this "epidemic".
Why does our country abandon our military personnel after using them "up" in combat?
I assume you have first hand knowledge about how the Pentagon tries to(or not) ameliorate this increasingly severe problem....any suggestions?
Suicide rates for veterans of all wars since they starting keeping that statistic has been about four times the rate of the civilian population. Living in a society that coddles and babies its populace more than at any time in history I doubt "the evil mean times" are to blame.
I suspect that our populations coping skills have been dumbed down due to the constant nannying that is taking place when raising our youth.
One thing that has gotten more evil and mean is the wholesale slaughter of humans thru abortion. I wonder if that has any correlation to the issue presented by the OP.
AHA......I was waiting for the typical "hater" airheaded post.......CONGRATULATIONS........
For your sake I'd pray that families of personnel who have died don't read your post!
Boo-frickin-hoo.
