We live in a free market economy. Salaries are generally what the market will bear and many times are tied to how easily replaced a worker's skill set is. Except engineers- some of the smartest guys out there- but make jack compared to the amount of brain power they put out vs. say a commodities trader who needs to be both lucky and good.

The market is always right because it is reality. If the market says it wont pay engineers well, then that's what they are worth. The market is driven by supply and demand, not education.
Actually Bush was a buisnessman who lost money in the oil business. At the time I think he was the only man in the oil buisness that lost money. Reagan was a successful actor and was the president of the screen actors guild. Bush 1 was also a businessman who was successful. The rest, going back to Kennedy were career politicians who actually acquired their riches from us. As you said... Pulled it out of thin air without making any contribution to society.

True. They complain when the CEO of a large multi billion dollar corporation makes $20 million but don't complain when a Hollywood actress gets paid millions for acting and showing her ****.
What I'm saying is the price (of land) is now out of reach, and it was made that way by the very people who now own most of it. Not through actually bidding more than the rest of us, but through enabling the rest of us to drive the price up to a point where only they, the corporations, could afford it.
