Yes , humans are animals. You must have failed biology. Humans are one of the Great Apes.

True enough (well, most estimates place the number of animal species on planet Earth somewhere in the 5-30 million range, not 1.3). Homosexuality is not really seen in many lower animals. Then again, would it even be observable? It's weird to even think about homosexuality (or heterosexuality, or sexuality at all) in many lower animals. Ever seen a gay or straight sponge while out snorkeling? Sponges are hermaphroditic and most often reproduce asexually. Even when they do produce sexually, would you call them heterosexual? Is it really heterosexuality to release sperm into the water and hope it lands on a suitable mate? Does an animal so simple that it doesn't have organs, tissues, or even blood exhibit something comparable to human sexuality?

The fairer statement is that homosexuality is very prevalent in higher animals - mammals, birds, etc - animals that exhibit developed social-sexual behaviors.

Yeah, but those penguins chose to be gay to defy God.

Same sex couples don't ruin the sanctity of marriage, Newt Gingrich does

Ah, but Newt is a Conservative Republican, and therefore his indiscretions can be easily overlooked. It doesn't matter how much adultery, divorce, and sham weddings heterosexuals have. It's the heterosexual part that matters, not the commitment!
