I would only fight if my own city were being occupied or under attack and then, probably as a freedom fighter or guerilla like the French did during WWII.
Anything less than that- I'd definitely be a conscientious objector.
There is a difference between willing to serve and being told to do so. I will not be told by a government entity to put my neck on the line for a cause I don't believe in!!!!
Those men and women who gave their lives did so VOLUNTARILY. I have all the respect in the world for our military but they are voluntarily serving.
You are .. How old?
May I be the first to inform you that up to and until the war ended in Southeast Asia .. We had what was known as a draft!
Since no nation has the power to invade U.S. Soil, any war would be defending other nations and interests.. I don't think its right to draft Americans to defend other country's but i would not dodge if i felt the reason for going to war was right.
With threads on here discussing Iran, Israel, Russia, China, UK, etc...if a full blown war were to occur and draft re-instated, how many would dodge it?
Personally, i'm not sure what I'd do. I have the option of being a legal resident indefinitely with another country that isn't in NATO so it would be pretty easy for me to give the draft a miss if it were to occur. Then again, if I felt the homeland was in imminent danger and we were at war for the right reasons, I would sign up if my number was drafted. However, if it is just to protect israel or our "interests" in the Middle east, i would surely skip out on it.
what would you guys do?
I would leave.....this country does NOT take care of it's "heroes", the vets have a higher unemployment rate than non-vets, I do NOT think it's wonderful that a vet who lost half their head and an arm or leg or two can still play hockey or hold a job....we do NOT fight wars for "freedom", we do not fight for average middle class Americans, we fight for the rich to get richer....I'd be gonnnnnnnnnnnnnnne!
I didn't dodge it 40 years ago and I wouldn't dodge it now. There is a price to be paid to live in a free society, and even though our freedoms have been diminished significantly over the last century, it is still the best the world has to offer. Sometimes a price has to be paid.

Well I don't see the Vietnam War as a war for freedom. I did not realize that Selective Service was used during WWII. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
I still do not agree with the draft and would dodge it unless I agreed with the reasons for a particular war.
