A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government.
A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.
From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship.
The push for Democracy and mob rule started over 100 years ago.
Look where we are today!
We have a dictator, ruling by executive orders. Bypassing the check and balance of the people and the Congress.
Look at the "super comity" designed to bypass congress.
Look how they have reduced the votes needed in the house and Senate from 2/3rds
Ironically, but not surprisingly, the "voters" giving themselves gifts from the public treasury are the financiers and warmongers that most vehemently and consistently support the Right Wing Conservatives. Compared to the debt driven military spending the left wing receives little more than a pittance form the government even though the poor and working folk vastly outnumber the wealthy that own big finance and big military.
In any case we are still a Constitutional Republic and are very likely to remain so despite the best efforts of big business to eliminate any competition for government welfare for themselves.
A Democracy is 10 men and 1 woman deciding who is going to get gang-raped.
A republic, along the lines would be the annointed one asking 10 men to go about gang raping and follow it up with lashing the woman for not being pure anymore.

I find it more than a bit ironic that an American would choose to advance an argument proposed by a 18th century Scottish noble and monarchist during a period when the push for democratic government was in full bloom, not 100 years ago, but over 200 years ago during the American revolution.

Warmongers and military overspending are not limited to one party...remember a POTUS with the initials LBJ?

All government is inheritantly evil because mankind is. All governmental forms suck and have to be constantly "revolutionized" due to the inevitable corruption that ensues from any extended endeavor of man. Our time has come.
Oh, I remember LBJ and RMN. Neither had the courage, nor has any other President, to tell the Warmongers and big finance that they are NOT in charge. Given the realities of our election system I do not expect to ever elect a President not beholden to these mobsters.
