I have to agree with skyegirl, there is nothing wrong with having a nice house, any monies Michael Moore has which I doubt comes to anyplace near the Wall Sreet bankers was not made off the backs of the common man, he cheated no one, nore did he deny health benefits to anyone, sell weapons to kill people or start any wars.
Any monies that he made off of his movies which is far less than your typical movie maker in Hollywood was made off of people that wanted to see or buy his movies, nobody was force to do anything against their will.
As skyegirl mentioned "yet has not forgotten where he came from" he has held onto the social teachings of the Catholic faith he was raised in, which is something many throw aside in their greed and lust for power and money.
Michael Moore is one of the good guys in our society, we need more like him.

What is unbelievable is that you aren't able to see that he runs his mouth about sharing wealth, and doesn't bother to share his OWN. He advocates socialism....but for OTHER people,..not himself.

If this guy...and all of the other loud mouthed hollywooders were people of conviction, then they would practice what they preach. They are saying thaqt corporate America should change their ways and back off on going for big profits...that corporate America should lower prices. Well...How about if Alec Baldwin lowers his demands per movie or tv episode? How about Michael moore not charge as much to the studios so his films could be viewed for $1.00 per ticket??

I am sick of people like moore coming off with this holier than thou attitude when they never volunteer to do what THEY CLAIM to believe is the right thing to do, and share THEIR wealth.

You will NEVER see that happen. This guy has caraved a niche with the lower class people who actually believe he is sincere. Like you...they don't see the utter HYPOCRISY that people like moore spew. It's his way of staying in the public eye...so he can KEEP that big mansion in the picture...that's all it is. And people like you eat it with a spoon.

The area is expanding not contracting in job growth along with a healthy housing market, that did see a decline in price during the burst, which placed my house half the cost of Moores. I live just blocks from the new National Geospatial Intelligence Agency. The largest single building complex in the DC area since the Pentagon.

I think the argument you made could've been applied to someone living in SoCal, Vegas or Miami during the 00's. When, not if, the FedGov jobs bubble bursts, the area will be taken down as a whole. Yes, there are private organizations with people earning good money, but even with both earners getting, say, 150-200K each, the most they can afford is 3x their income (assuming a 10-20% down payment which is hard enough as it is), which puts them in a 900K - 1.2M house. I understand that your typical Vienna house at least 30-40 years old is priced at around that amount. I'm afraid that with the downfall of FedGov, Inc. the private organizations that rely on that recent growth of FedGov, Inc. could be in for a hell of a time. One couldn't be more heavily exposed to a real crisis in the area. And, once the recent buyers jump ship, turning in their keys to save themselves from being 300K underwater, the rest will follow right along like dominos. Of course, if you bought long ago and haven't tapped into your home for equity you should be fine.

Don't say I didn't warn you. (Just like I warned the SoCalers in 2004).

Reminds me of Jennifer Lopez and her "Jenny from the block" routine. Just as pathetically transparent too. He is a socialist who believes in capitalism for himself but not for the people who happened to be left behind.

So I'm just curious. Under his post-capitalist society, how does a common citizen get to live in a nice place like his? Do they earn credits for being loyal servants of the State and over 10-20 years, redeem them for an abode such as his? Are mansions like this strictly off-limits to anyone who isn't part of the faux-intelligentsia and central planners of the post-capitalism economy?

He most certainly denied he was part of the 1%.

How do you know how generous he is? How do you know how much in taxes he pays?

Now now sanrene...I recall he gave ramen noodles and underwear to folks showing up at the polls in 2004. Currying college votes I suppose. No, seriously, that's what he gave them.

Oh, and he bought a lifetime membership to the NRA, and expressed interest in becoming its president so he could dismantle the organization. Guns are for socialists, not for the people.

The criticism of Moore is unfounded. He has given millions of dollars away and continues to give to the communities he supports. His first big break on Roger & Me resulted in a $3M check out of which he gave away $2M. He is not a socialist but he supports socialized medicine. He is pro-capitalism, he just wants it done differently, fairly, where the rich don't hold all the cards. He has indeed shown his films for free in various locations and even worked to get other documentarians the attention they deserve. I've read his autobiography which actually painted him in some pretty unflattering light. Have you? It certainly opened my eyes about his flaws. Where are the facts to support your assertions?

I think the right hates Moore because he's achieved something they cannot and because they don't want someone they oppose to be successful (kind of like wanting Obama to fail). They don't want to face the uncomfortable truths he's capable of showing them so they will make up unsubstantiated lies about him or take things out of context to paint him as a boogeyman out to destroy society. You know what? After all is said and done, he could actually be right and that's very scary to them.
