Unlike the current crop of Republicans he had a wicked sense of humor without coming off as banal. I doubt he thinks much of the tea baggers just as most mainstream Republicans had little regard for their predecessors, the Birchers.
No Republican ever won who said he wouldn't, at least not since reconstruction.
