I think it was the Republican Convention of 1980, not sure though. There were a lot of Republicans giving speeches I know that.
There were two states that almost all of them seemed to have an obsession with, Massachusetts and Nevada. It seemed like in every speech the person talking would single out Massachusetts as a "one party state" and the rightwingers would all be like boo, that's commie. But then almost in the same breath he'd single out Nevada for praise. The reason they were praising Nevada? BECAUSE IT WAS A ONE PARTY STATE!!! They didn't phrase it that way of course, the way they put it was that the entire congressional delegation and also the Governor of Nevada were all Republicans.
For the record Massachusetts at the time had a Republican member of Congress, so it was less of a one party state then Nevada

For all the myth and talk of Massachusetts being the bluest of the blue states, the majority of voters are registered as Independent, which leads me to believe they may lean Left (either socially or economically) but they are open to voting for the right Republican, or any other candidate who walks the talk. That may explain why Scott Brown beat Martha Coakley in a "shock defeat" over a year ago.
