The Congress is not running this country. The Congress is putting in part time hours and getting full time pay and special benefits on your dime. Are you okay with that?
Congress is an equal branch of government to the president. Guess he should only be working part time as well.
Think of the money we could save on pay and benefits. We all know that Congress does not work a full-time schedule and bleeds the taxpayers for excessive pay and benefits. Let's put an end to people running for office for the pay and the perks. Perks that include enabling them to engage in insider trading. Poof! Crooks be gone.
I completely understand the sentiment, and I think your reaction is reasonable-- But I think it's solving the wrong problem. The current House has worked fewer days than any House in history-- and--arguably-- this has been one of the worst House sessions in memory.
The problem isn't how much the congresspeople earn--or how much they work.
The problem is they live only to seek reelection and that takes money-- In order to get that money they are beholden to corporate/union/philosophical interests who pay to get them reelected.
Get the corporate/union/PAC money out of politics-- Let them run on a publicly funded stipend OR what they can raise from limited private donatinos and things will change.
Rick Perry ought to know. Several Texas news organization have filed FOIA request for his calendar. He spends precious little time on Texas business.
The Congress is only working 106 days next year. Looks like part time to me.
Perhaps their financial forms should include total income earned in a given year. We could then deduct a percentage of salary from total income. Kinda like unemployment insurance.

I disagree with Perry, surprised eh. With all the issues facing the nation today, if anything they should be working overtime. Thankfully Perry will get nowhere near the Whitehouse.

The problem is also they go in with some money and leave Congress wealthy. We are talking about the US Senate and those lifers, too, aren't we?
