So for the threat of China??? some 2,500 troops are being sent to build up over the next few years and this is some how going to impact their 1 million man army. Sounds more like spending money on bases, feeding the economy of Australia and more government empire thinking to me.

Mr Obama said the deployment would allow the US to "meet the demands of a lot of partners in the region" in terms of training, exercises and "security architecture".

Seriously we ARE BROKE!!! They should be looking to close bases and they are expanding into more countries. I tell you its planned DESTRUCTION of our country.

BBC News - Obama visit: Australia agrees US Marine deployment plan

PS doesnt congress have to approve of spending money and deploying troops and long term commitments.

As an ex sailor I can say that any Austrailian city would be a great place to be stationed. Talk about the "Land of the Long Blond."

It's nice to hear all the closet socialist soldier boys talking about how they'd like a subsidized vacation down under.

Damned waste of tax dollars.

Military industrial complex, live it, know it, hate it.

President Obama is wrong for this, but honestly don't try and play high and mighty, you know damned well that Republicans do the same bull crap.

Yep. Both Republicans and Democrats are empirial-minded. To say we shouldn't be in any country (other than our own) is be labeled an isolationist by them. They both serve the empire only.

I don't think it has anything to do with China. This is a conspiracy among troops to have an extended vacation in Australia and get paid for it.

Hell, I would do it if I could.

The United States spends 4 times more then the ENTIRE REST OF THE WORLD COMBINED on our military.

Europes military spending has slowly declined since the end of the cold war. The United States has continued to grow. Even under Clintons cuts, the military grew in size and scope.

I have to admit (I was prior military), I would have loved to have been stationed there. I would have come back with an Australian wife for sure!
