That's my thought. I'm no nationalist, but if we had an especially bad leadership, under a one world government, we might NEVER recover.

"We need one world, global government, and we need it now"

Call that Wentworth lawyer guy on the TV commercials, he'll get you results (for a hefty cut). While you're at it get Al Gore teamed up with double your speed dot commie. The internet is too slow.

Among the many benefits:

*Globalizing the risks, so that small countries don't face the brunt of the capital system.

*Easier policymaking for crucial issues like climate change.

*One world currency and elimation of passports facillitates travel and trade

*One global world court to ensure accountability
Some nations have a hard time with more than one major ethnic, religious, cultural, or linguistic group in their country. The USSR, Former Yugoslavia, India at the time of independence, a number of African countries, etc.

Among the many downsides:

1) A government (democratic or otherwise) that would be probably the least responsive to local needs that has ever existed.

2) Massive emigration from the poorest areas of the world to some of the wealthiest which would increase racial/ethnic tensions and class conflict.

3) The fact that there are literally hundreds of millions of nationalists throughout the world and violent revolts and possibly a global civil war (which is kind of an oxymoron).

4) The fact that there are Islamic extremists that would certainly oppose a secular government and would use the removal of travel restrictions and immigration laws to impose their views on others.

5) The fact that other nations have different rail grades, different units of measurement, different electrical currents, and other differences in infrastructure and it would cost hundreds of billions (at least) to standardize on a global scale.

6) If you think America leans a tad conservative compared to Europe because of the South, just wait until the Arab world, China, Singapore, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Malaysia, and most of Africa have a say on social issues.

Haven't you heard the song Imagine by John Lennon?

"Imagine there's no countries, Nothing to kill or die for"

See? With a one world government we will be guaranteed peace. Because it is not like governments ever turn on their own people or that people within a country ever turn on each other. Or that there aren't literally billions of people who are still attached to the idea of nation states and wouldn't violently resist such a thing.

If we had a one world government, it would be what we have in the US on steroids, where we would be globalizing the risks alright, and privatizing the profits.

With multi-national corporations, showing no allegiance to any country, but profits only, it would be a neo cons wet dream come true.

Were almost there as it is, and we need to be going to opposite direction.

This reminds me of an interesting story that shows how naive and ill concieved the fanciful thought of single world government, with everyone living in harmony, really is. A single world government could only come about through repression and restriction of human rights. This, in a nutshell, appears to be what modern liberals pine for- totalitarianism. Liberals have nothing to do with liberty any more.

An former associate of mine, while in the British army, was assigned as the personal physician to Rudolf Hess while he was imprisoned in Spandau. No one was to speak with Hess unless it was a directive or command and therefore Hess said little. However, Hess developed apendicitis and had to be transferred to a hospital in which my former associate could perform the surgery. There was disagreement among the French, British, American and Russian authorities as far as where to take him for the surgery, which developed into a delay. Hess, observing the chaos of making a simple decision among four entities said to the surgeon, "If there was one man in charge, we would not have these problems". I find that funny as hell, as did the surgeon (he is now at Hopkins).

Communisism, pure and simple. No thanks. If you want that why don't you move to Europe where you would be happy and we would be happy your ilk was gone?

The real irony is we already have a One World Economy without any restraints on the bankers, speculators and scammers. Without a government with similar reach we are subject to the depredations of these thieves.
