Hence "progressive".

This is what a democratic republic looks like:

Joe the Plumber addresses Tea Party rally in Madison, Wis. - YouTube

American progressives wish to stop these kind of gatherings so that we can have more of this:

OWS: Occupy Oakland Violence - Police Shoot Veteran In The Face - Protesters In War Zone - YouTube

Can you name one American progressive that doesn't see the government as the "solution" for all of our problems?

Me neither.
It would seem that you believe progressive = communism. You are mistaken. It is only your definition, which fortunately does not really matter. Here is a better definition for you.

favoring or advocating progress, change, improvement, or reform, as opposed to wishing to maintain things as they are, especially in political matters: a progressive mayor.
2. making progress toward better conditions; employing or advocating more enlightened or liberal ideas, new or experimental methods, etc.: a progressive community.

3. characterized by such progress, or by continuous improvement.

4. ( initial capital letter ) of or pertaining to any of the Progressive parties in politics

A hallmark of progressives is free speech and a free exchange of ideas. The countries that you listed are all closed societies where speech and ideas are censored. It is the antithesis of a progressive society.

Like I said. Norway would be closer to a progressive system of governance.

For the record, I do plan on pursuing my PhD in the UK in order to try to remain there. The US healthcare system would rather see me die than get the care I need.

I wonder how long it will take to have your bubble burst over UK's healthcare. BTW good job of not trying to see better things for your country. LOL. I also have known people from England that came here for procedures they could not receive there.

For that matter, why have so many people over the years fled capitalist Haiti and Jamaica for the shores of communist Cuba, to the point where a lot of Cuba's coast guard work deals with intercepting/rescuing/repatriating Haitian refugees?

Anyhow, several million Americans currently live overseas, in various nations, but perhaps a larger point is that relatively few nations of any sort have mass expatriations going on. Most people like to stick around their homes if possible. Of the 200+ countries on Earth, a handful account for most refugees, and a somewhat larger handful account for most economic migrants.

Beyond that, most people in most places really aren't going anywhere. It's not as though a simple economic downturn is enough to force out massive numbers of people from a given country. You need several factors beyond that.

Why would we throw the baby out with the bathwater? America is a great place, it just needs some fine tuning.

I would have been diagnosed with my cancer when I first began to have symptoms but was on crappy student health insurance and then none at all, instead of 2 years later when I was at Stage IV. My boyfriend would be getting surgery to SAVE HIS SIGHT that he cannot afford in the US. Instead, he will most likely become blind and then be on the dole for the rest of his life (he's 27 - so that's a long time).

I will not risk my health further by living in a country where, because I am young, I cannot afford proper health care and worry every day about losing my job and being unable to afford follow up care.

Come back to me about "not trying to see better things for your country" when you are in the same position.

Excuse me, but it's you conservatives that are always crying about how you're being overtaxed and how the country is too liberal, socialist, and bordering on communism. Nevermind the incessant crowing about how businesses are being over regulated and how libs are chipping away at your personal freedoms. Does the NRA gunnuttery ring a bell?

So if you don't like it, why don't YOU GUYS get the hell out of dodge?

In your original post you posted a quote from a Russian stating that freedoms in Russia are being taken away. As far as Iran is concerned, that goes without saying Answer this, do progressives want an oppressive nation with few freedoms, or do they want anarchy and the freedom to riot and loot?

As always with threads on this topic, where would all those Americans go? It's not that countries abroad are waiting for them with open arms

Check the world forum, there are lots of Americans asking for information on potential relocation targets abroad...

Despite its obvious flaws the US is still an interesting country as one can feel that people might turn things around once they are really tired of their mess. A feeling one does not necessarily get in my country, where people don't believe in the future, but prefer to accept the chronically troubled situation of their country as their fate instead.
