UC Davis Police officers in riot gear warned “Occupy UC Davis” demonstrators to pack up their tents and leave the field located between the Memorial Union and Shields Library at about 3:00 p.m., and then moved in to take down the protesters’ tents a half hour later.
University officials had warned students several times since Thursday that camping would not be allowed on the quad.
UC Davis Police Chief Annette Spicuzza said officers used force out of concern for their own safety after they were surrounded by students.
Obviously the university doesn't want another stinking, filthy squatters camp on the grounds.
Hmmm in 49 years the police have never had cause to pepper spray me. It could be because I dont put myself in that position to force an issue. We have a legal system. If you disagree with the police call a lawyer. There are no shortages of lawyers willing to sue. If you opt to disobey an order from the police to disburse then you have chosen possible consequences. Use the legal system that is your right. It is not your right to ignore the police.
Someone used a speeding ticket ( sarcastically) as an example of police pepper spraying. Of course it was lame but lets go with this analogy.
I am driving what I believe to be a safe speed, or even what I believe is the posted speed limit. I see a police car with flashing lights following me. I elect to ignore the police officer because I believe that I have broken no laws. Soon I have 6 police cars following me and right to my house. I get out of my car and they order me to lay on the dround with my hands behind my head. Once again I feel I have broken no laws so I elect to ignore the order.
The police taser me. Who is wrong? I would say I was for being to stubborn to obey the police to begin with. If they were wrong My lawyer and I will have satisfaction.
Maybe I get pepper sprayed when I elect to argue with the police. I am still wrong. I elected to not use the legal system to my advantage.
I wasnt there and I dont know what led up to the pepper spray. But it must have been a mild spray non-military application because if they had used a military mix they would have been howling within seconds.
Word to the wise. Obey the cops and let the lawyers sort it out.
You seem to not understand this is what the protesters knew would happen, it is what they want to happen, did you see all the people recording? They will all scream police brutality and file lawsuits and if you have a clue what they are about you would know this.
