the warning signs of American decline seem to be blinking more consistently. In the latest annual "prosperity index" published by the Legatum Institute, a research company in London, the United States ranks as the world's ninth-most-prosperous country. That's five notches lower than last year (http://2008.prosperity.com/ranking.aspx - broken link), when America ranked No. 4.

China and India have recovered smartly from the recession, for example. Brazil seems to be barreling ahead. Australia is growing faster than expected, prompting worry among government officials who fear they may have overstimulated the economy. The United States, meanwhile, is muddling through a weak, jobless recovery, and we have a lot of problems that could make prosperity feel elusive for a long time.

So I just wanted to know, why are countries like Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Canada, Australia, etc... All countries with higher taxes, more social benefits and a bigger centralized government more prosperous and have a higher quality of life than the US? Denmark rates 1st for Entrepreneurship while the US is 5th. why isnt that 50% tax rate stopping the Danes?

It is a good question. The USA clearly lags on every health indicator they use, but still ranks number 1 for health. I suspect they only go by money spent on health. Which is where the USA is far and away the leader -rather than actual results, where America lags.

We too are a socialist nation. The top fascist nations have out performed the US for about 10 years now. Happened when we dropped trade tariffs and allow illegal alien workforces.
Both NAFTA and the 2000 China Trade Act, Killed prosperity for the middle class.

How many times has a thread espousing this identical premise been posted?

Good for Denmark and the other socialist utopias. The US is not and never will be Denmark. If people find our form of government so flawed why do they not relocate to a country with a government more to their liking?

Here is the biggest item on the living large list by the OP.

Who is going to save those Nordic butts when their economies come crashing down because of the European Domino affect.

Plus we could always cash in our Saved your country from Domination and destruction chip. But we already have that's why they suckle at the US teet of military protection.

Not that simple. The countries that did far better than we did have tougher immigration standards than we do. Probably would not to be able to move there permanently.
