I say false... he pushed for national health care... it didn't happen but he pushed for it... What Obama WANTS and what Obama GETS are two different things... the reason he didn't get all the FAR LEFT ideas that he wanted was because Democrats and Republicans stopped him cold...

Definitely true. I would say the European political party the Democrats most resemble is the British Tories.

No way. I think Obama is a center-left in the UK. The UK is mostly centrist to center-left whereas the western continent is center-left or left. The British Tories is a centrist party, just like the Canadian Tories.

I lived in the UK for a bit and worked for a Labor MP, Labor being the center left party there. Obama was definitely further right then they were (and seeing as how in Britain parliamentarians have no where near the freedom US congresspeople have to break with there party it is pretty clear individual MPs are on the same page as the party).

The reason I say Obama would be a Tory is because in Britain there is a broad consensus on a whole bunch of issues such as gun control, healthcare, abortion, that looks a lot like Democratic positions, Tory's favor keeping this consensus while Labor wants to move further left on it, on other issues like public housing, university tuition and gay rights the conservative positions look more similar to Obama's US positions on gay rights, FAFSA and HUD then they do to the Labor party. There are also notable differences between the US and UK politically including the complete and total absence of any Christian Right. Obama would definitely be a Tory for numerous reasons.

Europe has national health care. Your post doesn't make sense. In Germany the center-right party does not want to get rid of national health care. Its been here since the 19th century.

false. in europe obama could be the person he wants to be, far left, and still win elections. in the US he has to stay towards the center if he is going to win a general election.
