You do realize the original news story is from a widely circulated Denmark Newspaper. The link is in the story. Oh maybe you decided not to read it. I thought liberals were the scholastically superior ideologues?

If that's too dense (it's from an academic journal), here's a media summary:

Needs more ANOVA.

ETA: they are not saying the results are statistically insignificant between the 1st cousin and control groups. They are merely saying it's not "as bad as perceived"

You're so right. The correct term is "retards", not "retardeds". Bad grammar and misspellings are rife here! Do you feel better with the proper term now in place?

Edited to add: Opps, that misspelling was in the second post... The OP did use the term correctly!

The problem is not with first or second cousins reproducing for the first time in a gene pool group. The problem is the multiple reproductions of several generations with in a small gene pool group.

The odd cousin marriage here and there isn't going to hurt a group's gene pool, but when you have averages of 50% cousin marriages that's a serious problem. Cousin marriage is also, arguably, one point that keep immigrant muslim communities from integrating into their adopted societies, as it causes them to remain more insular.

I have also scratched my head about the redneck jokes (when cousin marriages are extremely low in the US) but no one blinks when they see statistics upward to 70% in places like Pakistan.

How about from just one gene pool? Started with Adam and Eve for many. They belong to that pool.

They marry cousins only because the sheep are not considered marriage material. For other purposes however...

It's the aggregate case. This particular group shows that in the long run, it produces more retarded children. There also may be a higher propensity for muslim children to become retarded from 1st cousin mating, perhaps an external stimulus?
