We had a BAD hay year about 3 summers ago and I know I could have picked up 15-20 AQHA registered BROKE horses a week without paying a dime.

Horses we were turning for $2500 + became worthless and brought bids less than the fuel to deliver them and the auction fees.

Most were turned out in out of the way pastures by idiots and were either hit by cars later, run ragged by ferral dogs or shot by land owners for damaging property.

It takes a lot to keep a horse up in good shape and well fed...hay doesn't give them enough for good body warmth in the winter so you have to buy corn/sweetfeed etc...you've got to break ice every morning so they don't walk out on the ponds, fall through and die while looking for water...they are a pain in the ass to keep up with and you have to know what you are doing to keep them happy and healthy.
DANG! I'm looking for 2 that are gunshot trained for hunting. I gotta check CL more often

Actually horse meat is better for us, as it is more lean.
Please, give me a brake with the lean business. Nothing beats a PorterHouse.

what we have here is a group of people who don’t like a particular behavior that has existed in America for longer than there has been an America.

So they got that behavior criminalized. Now that the criminalization of the behavior has proved the Law of unintended consequences, they are defensive and are blaming everyone but themselves for the brutal treatment of the animals they thought they were protecting.

Get this thru your thick skulls, those of you who wanted to criminalize the slaughter of horses are to blame for the now rampant torture of horses.

The problem here is simple .... those that have no morality cannot understand what it is. Loyalty and honor are very closely related too ...

There is a HUGE difference between a pig and a dog ... you don't see Police Pigs (well maybe that's not a good example ) Seeing Eye Pigs .... Watch Pigs .... Search and Rescue Pigs ... etc.

Dogs are honorable creatures with a deep sense of loyalty, and incredible intelligence far beyond what most people understand.

Many people would do themselves and the rest of the world a favor if they embraced those qualities that seem to come naturally to dogs .... qualities which seem to be harder to find in humans with each passing day.

^^^ This is why you don't eat dogs .... they deserve far better treatment, and have long been "Man's Best Friend" .... even though no one could blame them if they decided to make better choices.

Horses are in generally the same category when it comes to service to humans .... they've assisted and hauled humans around for centuries ... earning them the right not to be eaten by us in return.

There's that loyalty and honor thing again!

So then, you're perfectly ok with eating a dog that doesn't save peoples' lives or follow you around?

You know, pigs are arguably at least as intelligent as dogs, FYI.

I don't really care what people do with their property, as long as it doesn't interfere with mine.
