You really don't see the contradiction here do you? "A fool would raise horses for slaughter" ... followed by ... "Horse meat is as expensive as veal ..." Sounds like the fool raising those horses for meat would do pretty well selling in Europe.
By the way, Horses thrive in the wild ..... BLM claims these populations are out of control. So how is FREE more expensive than raising cattle which are not available to "round up" from the wild?
Because you cannot go out & catch wild animals to sell in the market. What he said & meant was its expensive to raise them. seems a simple thing to understand. On another note if their population is out of control we should have a hunting season for them. Thats the tried & true way to deal with overpopulation of wildlife. Of course they are NOT native, so maybe they should just have an open season for them like many states do with wild hogs. After all, if those horses are eating in the wild then the animals that belong there will be adversely effected.

A horse would cost more in feed than cattle(veal are cute cow babies by the way...no tears for them???) so it ouwl dbe foolish.

But as population continues to increase we will either start eating animals we dont now or we will remove them from the picture to make room for what we need.
Good point,to better allocate resources, those horses need to go...

Whats that got to do with this conversation? If your neighbors kill & eat horses it has zero effect on you, so by your own reasoning it shouldn't matter to you. Are you saying that cooked horses in your neighbors kitchen somehow pollute your land?
I believe this is how you 'muddy the waters' to get the topic off topic.

I think some people aren't able to understand when others use logical points in the discussion...better to just get all upset.
I bought one of these horses as well as two of my relatives and four of my friends. With the exception of one weanling, they were in horrid conditions. Thin, matted, thrush, eye infection in two of them and wormy. Aside from the obvious health problems, they all have trust issues that will take us years to overcome. We actually bought some of the better looking younger horses. There were some that shouldn't have even been sold, they should've been put out of their misery.
As an equestrian and horse lover, I'm happy to hear this. Many horse lovers as myself having been hoping for this.
Obama did the right thing....listen up....
these horses are unwanted because of irresponsible owners. When a horse is old or injured it becomes worthless to many people.
They don't want to spend hundreds of dollars caring for something that sits in the pasture.
As it stands now, they have the grueling haul to Mexico or Canada with no food, water, often trampled to death before they arrive.
If the slaughterhouses open back up, at least they can suffer less before they die and they should have better conditions and regulations here.
Would it be ideal for horses not to die in the first place? Of course. Just as it would be ideal if we didn't need animal shelters. But as long as there are irresponsible and greedy people in the world, we are going to have unwanted animals. There aren't enough homes for them all. It's sad but true.
Don't blame Obama. Don't blame the slaughterhouses or the meat buyers. The blame falls squarely on the shoulders of the horse's owners. And before someone talks about how the poor owners lost their job, can't afford to feed, blah blah spare me. If someone can't afford to feed their horse, they could at least try to find a home for it first, even if they give it away. Most of these people call the meat man before even attempting to find a home for their horse.
