NOT Democrats!

Bill Would Broaden FLSA Computer Exemption

Just another example of how it doesn't matter whether the person is a D or an R ... they're both in the pockets of big corporations! Class warfare!? Don't blame Obama, blame your congressmen!

How in the world does it make sense to limit overtime pay in an era of record corporate earnings, 17% real unemployment, and the 2% savings rates?

I fully expect the US to continue being in the doldrums so long as wages stay in the gutter. Unless we reverse the 40 years of class warfare against the middle class, and have a sharp increase in wages, we aren't going to recover, people!

And what worse message to send to the young ones considering STEM fields? "Work hard, study the most difficult subjects, stack up student debt ... then work like an indentured servant the rest of your life for no overtime like a slave."

Yeah, kids aren't that stupid. Neither are we. I urge you to write your senator to stop this insane bill!

Considering how much IT workers make, I'm not crying for them.

Pay for overtime has been limited forever in the name of a salary.
People all over America work on salary, not hourly wages and often their pay could be based on 55 hours a week depending on the work and compensation.

What is so evil here?

Wow..have you guys not heard of contract workers ?
They are hired on by the big corporates and they do work for hourly wages.
They have been hit hard in the last 2 years...hours reduced, forced furloughs and the amount the corporates will pay to the contracting companies reduced.

You see the corporates hire contractors when they need them. Much cheaper than salaried workers.
Here today, gone tomorrow, back next week. And the corporates only pay a fee to the contracting company. No benefits, payroll taxes, etc. The corporates are making out like bandits here.

Geeze..do some googling before you rush in to post.

I see it as class warfare for the simple reason that if there's demand, then in a free market society, which IN THEORY we live in, then you should pay more for it; whether it be specific goods, or services, or jobs.

IT professionals run the modern economy. They code the servers, they debug the software, they test it, etc. This bill would expand it to sysadmins and security specialists, and potentially anyone who works on a computer, including engineers.

So all these jobs are highly desired by corporations because they know that high tech is the future. So why not let free market capitalism have its run and entice the best and brightest with good pay?

Then the contract workers should find another way to do business.

Not much since most of the IT jobs have been shipped to India.
And the jobs remaining are often taken up by immigrants on H1B visas who are willing to work for half the pay and no benefits.

There isn't a dime's worth of difference between the two parties anymore. Like much of corporate America these days, the two parties have merged into one mega-conglomerate, wholly-owned subsidiary of Wall Street. Why don't they just drop the phony charade already?

--------------

Hillary Clinton sided with big business against American students and professionals. With the help of Republicans, she pushed through a major increase in H1B immigrant work visas, despite the high unemployment rate for American IT graduates.

Weren't the democrats suppose to fight for the rights of American workers? Or does the U.S. Chamber of Commerce control both parties? Remember her husband Bill Clinton signed the job-killing NAFTA, a fully bipartisan effort.

Want to know one of the secrets of raising wages? Stop importing surplus labor from developing nations! Cancel the H and L visas that foreigners currently have here, and severely curtail the K visas from developing nations by at least 90%

I'm a salaried IT worker so this wouldn't affect me but I just don't understand the point of it. I know many friends in IT who get OT in other companies and lower grade level employees in mine get OT. Our changes are strictly limited to off hour 2am timeframes and/or weekends. Why should they be denied OT if having to work during these times? We have police officers out there doubling their salary each year by working OT. How come we aren't limiting them?
