you are wrong about that. they always compromise, that is the problem. from a libertarian perspective, we get repeatedly shafted. to put forward an example, it's like republicans agreeing to support socialized medicine if democrats agree to continue war funding. they grandstand about it for a few days so they can show their electorates that they 'fought long and hard', but they cave in on each others demands.

the net result is that we go to war AND get more govt healthcare, both are disasters in my opinion. if they left this to the states, at least there would be competition in govt and there would be different policies nationwide. this would leave the people with the option of changing state law (easier than changing federal law), voting the bums out (more effective than voting out federal legislators) and if push came to shove, they could leave the state and move to a state where the laws were more in line with their ideology
