Not all convicted felons should lose their 2nd Amendment rights for life. To think that somebody can be convicted of felony DUI at 18, and when hes 65 cant legally own a gun to protect his family is absurd.
Why should any non violent non sexual offender be denied the right to self defense? If they went to prison, they paid their debt to society.
People need to get over this stereotype that all felons are gangbangers, murderers, rapists with no regard for human life. There are some great people sitting in prison right now, believe it or not. Some reformed, some were never bad, and were victimized by our big bloated government and their policy is over-regulating and restricting EVERYTHING they can get their filthy paws on.

Well, if people would get more educated about guns and the people that use them and not mix the gang bangers and the law abiding citizens, and not listen to the MSM, then maybe. Until then, to bad....
Law abiding gun owners do NOT buy a gun to kill people with, unlike some people have said on this very board, they buy a gun for enjoyment, shooting and the possibility of self defense, if they even worry about self defense.
And just so you know, you can go into any paper and buy guns from another person without any paperwork....so your entire theory of the second amendment and someone protecting themselves down the road, just flew out the door....
You aren't going to keep a felon, who is determined to own a hangun from buying one anyway. Wouldn't you rather know he has one? A felon can still own a hunting rifle, and really, couldn't more damage be done with a semi auto rifle?

I said legally. I can go buy some crack on the corner, that doesnt mean its legal.

I honestly dont know if its a state law or a federal law, but felons in Indiana cant own any gun unless its black powder.

With that said, I think there should be some type of diversion program (or "deferred adjudication" or "deferred prosecution" or something) available to first-time, nonviolent felons that allows them to avoid being convicted of a felony and the corresponding loss of rights.
I also think that lawmakers need to take close look at whether every felony on the books really needs to be a felony.

I agree. It's twisted the way some of the laws are. Especially when the really dangerous people out there know how to be one step ahead of the law and avoid having to follow it, putting society in general in danger. A lot of nonviolent felons on the other hand get to live forever with something they've done. That's not to say people shouldn't pay for the crime(s) they commit, but doing the crime means doing the time and then it should be done with if they don't do anything else.

The person(s) who were on the receiving end of the drunks actions could possibly wind up incapacitated until they day they die....
Screw the drunk and his/her "rights"
Did he/she think of other people before getting behind the wheel? NO
