No doubt this extreme punishment for what is not even considered a crime in most parts of the world was influenced by the teachings of Islam. Which causes me to think about religious conservatives here in America who believe that the Constitution should be based off the bible. There are certain scriptures in the bible which calls for the stoning to death of people accused of things like homosexuality and adultery. I am concerned that if religious consveratives gain more power in America they may instill their version of Sharia law here and things like executing people for moral "crimes" may become commonplace.

Hell we don't even execute people for killing other people here now and I don't think that will change very soon.

It's an authoritarian's dream state, which is an idea that appeals to left wing radicals as well as right wing religious loonies - but not liberals.
Liberals favor state control, and are hostile to business. Of course N. Korea is an extreme example of what can happen when too much faith is put in government.
