Perry drawing five-figure retirement pay from Texas | 2012 Presidential Campaign | News ...

Apparently he "officially" retired earlier this year even though he is still governor.

He was a state worker before he was Governor. Two different pots of money and he still pays into the retirement system with his Governor's salary.

While we may not like it that is the law and it wasn't Perry who created it.
Bush could have also collected while being President as Bush was Governor.

If you think about it any career politician can be doing that. They are just happening to slam Perry over it but I doubt Perry is the only politician in America doing it.

Yup. state workers (I believe) in all 50 states and the District of Columbia are entitled to retirement benefits.

Perhaps you are not familiar with how things work in America?

I suspect most Governors/former Governors are in the very same position.

If the OP really wants to be outraged he/she should look at the pensions Congress members draw upon.

I'm proud of Ron Paul for choosing not to accept his pension once he retires. He has enough retirement saved from his salary and from his medical practice that he doesn't feel the need to leech off the taxpayers even though he's earned it.

Another "Do what I say, not what I do" conservative.

Who would have thought? Besides anyone with a above room temperature IQ.

So what?

I love the "five figure" phrasing. Supposed to make it sound like a lot. Everyone reading this that has a job has a "five figure" salary, or better.

Streeeeeeeeeeetttttttttcccccccccchhhhhhhhh........ ....

Texas should pass a "Perry Law" which taxes Rick Perry $300,000 a year. Call it an idiot tax.

I'm not a Perry fan or anything, but I'm curious - what did he say that he's not doing? (Please stick to the topic to which you replied - don't go off about some completely unrelated thing).

Mmmm, I must have missed it, when did Perry suggest state employees should not take retirement benefits?
