Initial claims for unemployment insurance dropped to 366,000 last week, the lowest level since May 2008, in another sign that the job market is making a significant improvement. The new figures released Thursday by the Labor Department showed a drop of 19,000 initial claims from the previous week's adjusted figure of 385,000. The four-week average is 387,750 — below the 400,000 level that economists say is key to cutting into the unemployment rate.

He was responding to your implying economic numbers are just manipulated at the behest of the executive branch of our government.

His point was if numbers are just fables spun by a big government conspiracy why would they even bother having the recession exist, along with all the bad press and criticism it has resulted in directed at the government. Why wouldn't they just keep unemployment at 6% the whole time instead of letting it become 10, if it is just fake.

A 0.4% decline is "sharply" falling?

I'd hate to see how they would characterize a 2% decline.

Your Labor Participation Rate is 64%.

It has been steadily decreasing from the pre-recession rate of 66.4%.

Please enlighten everyone and explain how 3.6 Million people who used to work, but haven't worked in 3 years, and have given up looking for work is "good news."

We'll be waiting with great anticip-p-p-pation to see how you spin the fact that fewer people paying into Social Security, Medicare and personal income taxes at the federal and State level, plus failing to pay earning taxes at the State, county and city level or sales taxes is "good news" for the future of America.

I wouldn't read too much into that. You're bottoming out in job losses, so I'd have to say that any future job losses are related to economic performance and not to a reallocation of labor resources.

Also if you have 2 jobs you are counted twice in this report.
Their methodology wasn't exactly written by a Vulcan. This time last year they were pulling a different year out of a hat to compare for each month.

Obama hasn't changed anything except hope. That's why your labor participation rate is dropping and your UE rate is "declining."

The same calculations are used today that were used before the Great Bamcession.

Full time job equivalents? I must say that was grandiose bit of vernacular gymnastics if I've ever seen one.
