Collecting benefits from the government that you are entitled to is just plain level headed.
Refusing to collect benefits that you have helped fund just because you think government is too big would be the height of stupidity.
.
Few people would disagree. The question is however, are you really anti big government if you depend on the government for cash, even if it's deserved. Are you a hypocrite for participating in programs you condemn. I have no problem with people who receive benefits they deserve, I do have a problem if they bash those same programs.
Growth of government is rampant regardless of which party is in office. Obviously, Obama is the champion of government growth. But he is only one in a long line of big government presidents.
I agree, but the point of the OP is to try and point the finger at the Dems while ignoring his own Party, this I know from years of reading this posters POV.

No. Not a hypocrite. I will take everything the government gives me. It's just my tax dollars (or a small portion of them) being returned to me. And I will continue to bash big government. That's just being smart. It's not hypocritical.
Only a foolish person would refuse to accept unemployment payments just because they thought the government should not extend those benefits.

I ignore that stuff. Reps are big government people. Dems are bigger government people.
If government control is growing so intrusive how come I haven't noticed any? I can still say what I want, drive wherever I can afford and pretty much do what I want. Where is the control?
Patriot Act
Section 1021 of NDAA
Homeland security
TSA
DEA - do we even need this ?
ATF - do we need this one too?
FEMA
laws telling business what products they can sell
laws telling business what prices they can charge
laws telling business what profit margins they can achieve
laws telling business when they can open their stores
laws telling business what products they can sell on certain days
licensing requirements for everything.. barbers, decorators, etc, etc
restrictions on what we can eat
restrictions on what we can drink
restrictions on what we can smoke
restrictions on sex
restrictions on marriage
Federal control of education
Federal control of speed limits
Laws telling business they can't put toys in meal packages
Laws telling adults they cannot circumcise their sons
Restrictions on smoking in a park or golf course
Restrictions on gun ownership
Maybe you don't want to choose when you buy a car. Maybe you don't want to choose when you buy a bottle of wine. Maybe you don't care if your phone is wiretapped without a warrant. Maybe you don't care if the government tells you what prices you can charge. Maybe you don't care that the government tells you what you can and cannot drink.
Actually the public sector has been the largest job shedder in the past couple of years. Private sector adds jobs, and the public sectors sheds. Isn't that what you want? I like that trend.
Like I said, it's not about government jobs. It's about spending and CONTROL.
I would like to see reduced spending and reduced control.
And the government job reductions are a result of the recession. Not the result of any effort to reduce the power and control of government.
I think this is just the Fox News effect. What the hell have the Republicans been able to accomplish in the last ten year except scare the American people with phony threats. Iraqi mushroom clouds, gays out to steal your marriage, Obama turning us into socialist regime. This has nothing to do with the actual government, which is center-right, but speaks to the effectiveness of the right wing propaganda.
Interesting that the fear of the government seems to be a long-term trend. I did not know that. I wonder why conservatives support invasive laws like the Patriot Act, and massive military spending, if they are afraid of the government.
I guess showing granny in a wheelchair being pushed off a cliff isn't trying to scare people to you?

What do you mean "pretty much?" Assuming you're not intent on being a criminal, what can you not do that you'd like to do?
It sounds like Big Government is keeping you down Greg. Is that what you're saying?

I believe the link speaks for itself. There was no political finger-pointing. The poll included liberals/democrats, conservatives/republican, and independents, and as I pointed out to a couple of early posters,...all 64% certainly weren't republicans. There is a widespread fear of big government that transverses political lines. (So much for mind-readers on this forum.)
I totally agree with your assessment that "big government" is not limited to physical size, but also to public perception. Governments do limit the way businesses operate, and every aspect of our personal lives. Those who claim they have not any personal freedoms to government are disingenuous.
