We have a mentality in this country now of "I want it and I want it now", regardless of whether or not they can afford it. Or if the money couldn't have gone to better use.

It's like the people who sleep over night on the sidewalk to get the latest Iphone, they don't need it. But waiting a few months or waiting until the price comes down is something they never even consider.

It's all a very sad reflection of our society today.

It's also very scary, because if this is how people act to get something they don't need, how will they act if there were food shortages?

I have to agree with this.

Many things will never change as long as such a high value and priority are placed on getting $200 shoes for 14 year old kids versus paying for college prep courses or tutors.

You cannot get an iPAD clone for $50. Shoes are shoes. There is nothing magical about them to justify the difference in price from one or the other.
