Huck, you're a reasonable man. Your posts display the ablility to think critically and not be blinded by partisanship. Don't believe the lie that all Muslims are our enemy. They're not. I have met many, in America and abroad. Some are extremist terrorists; most are not. Some Christians -- Timothy McVeigh -- are America hating extremists, but most are not.

In Egypt, the ‘Arab Spring’ is going so swimmingly that Copts are already fleeing Egypt and, for those Christians that remain, Midnight Mass has to be held in the daylight for security reasons. In Iraq, midnight services have been canceled entirely for fear of bloodshed, part of the remorseless de-Christianizing that has been going on, quite shamefully, under an American imperium.

Btw, Ramadan IS part of America's culture, since we have Muslims who live here as citizens... Rosh Hashana and Diwali are also part of our culture, since again, we are not a 100% Christian country. Or do you think we're insignificant, and just foreign invaders of the United States? Wait, don't answer that!
The problem is some White people think that all Americans should follow White conservative culture. They fail to realize, we are a secular country. That culture is not driven by any one race or ethnic group in this country. We have many cultures, which most of us appreciate, and learn from. I love tacos...I'm not Mexican. I love Opera, I'm not Italian. I love some Bollywood movies, I'm not Indian...etc. We are a country of Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhist and Atheists, to name a few. We are White, Black, Latino, Asian, Arab and Native Indian. Our nation hear the echos of all the languages spoken on earth, and have people that can trace their roots to every single country on this planet. Even parts of our nation are so different in "American Culture". A New Yorker and someone from Fargo have very different life experiences and ways of looking and doing things, but have the love of country in common.

So this notion that our "Culture" is so simple, clear cut, black and white is beyond ludicrous and ignorant.

No, I'm not confusing anything... it is a part of the American culture, since there are Americans who observe the Muslim faith/traditions. Sorry if that doesn't jive with you, but it's a fact. Do you not consider me a real American, just because I'm not Christian?

I was born in the United States (nation's capital, no less), as were my parents and 3/4 of my grandparents. So anything I do is by default an American practice, even if it happens to be rooted in Judaism or Slavic culture... just as St. Patrick's Day has become a part of our culture, even though it's really an Irish celebration. Don't you understand this?

Exactly.

I love how diverse the country is, and how we're all AMERICANS regardless of our cultural, ethnic & religious beliefs. I guess some people wish this country was 100% White-Christian, but it isn't and will never be again... and I, for one, am very glad for that. Not that I have anything against White Christians, but I do enjoy being exposed to other cultures as well.

Sad state of affairs in this country as well as the world when a simple holiday greeting like Merry Christmas has become considered an assault on others.

I agree that we have too much political correctness in our great country.

I am Jewish---and I find nothing wrong in wishing a very merry Christmas to all--enjoy your day.
To the Jewish people on C-D---I wish you happy Hanukkah---I believe today is the sixth day of Hannukah----enjoy the celebration.

This country is truly diverse---and its great because of it----there is no need to skirt around holidays-----recognize everybodys day of celebration and refer to it as Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, or Ramadan.

thank u. however i have read the Quran. chapter 9 repentance (al-tawbah) is very clear as what muslims must do to "polytheists" (jews and christians) ....after the months of pilgram sanctity, kill the ones who are polytheists wherever you find them and take them and besiege them,".....
to be fair i do find this type of command in KJV Bible (which i have also read) but only in the old testament.

You're the one who doesn't understand. Ramadan and Hanukah are practiced by Some Americans, but can pass by unnoticed in most of the country. OTOH, it's virtually impossible to miss Christmas. TV, radio, the last Ramadan or Hanukah movie or song you heard was ? From the White House to homeless shelters, it's Christmas. The national holiday is ?

You might prefer the reality to be different. Fact is, Christmas, not the others, is an American cultural practice and tradition.
