You are not my future American. My kids are not bums and will defeat you in the job market and this competitive world.

If you were my kid, you would be motivated and would have different goals and a different outlook on life. Failure would not be an option.

Don't worry. When the paychecks start coming in and you start seeing your money throw away frivolously you'll move away from the dark and ignorant side and into the light.

Of course you'll stay on the dark side if you think the black-hole formally known as the Federal Government is there to take care of your every need and want.

Not in the least. With your attitude and apathy, where you are today in life is where you will most likely be in 50 years especially if you don't like working. But all are not like you; there are those that want technical education and want to get a job to advance and these will be the decision makers, not you.

It appears that you are also delusional. Trust me when I tell you that you will not be "running things" someday. Oh, you may be a mayor or a councilman or maybe even a state representative, but when it comes to running this country you can bet your buttons that the global elite are going to ensure that it is people LIKE THEM who are running anything that matters.

The person you describe is going to be a wage slave, just like all the wage slaves before him/her. That is what you have been bred to do and that is all you know unless you learn to THINK FOR YOURSELF. Which, given this scenario, is unlikely.

i'm not sure why not being close with your family is something you'd brag about either

Hate to break it to you, but you are not unique. Back in the early 60s, when I was in college, I would have described myself in pretty much the same way. Except for the young part, I pretty much still do...

Are you threatened by me and the millions of others like me who, as the educated populace in the face of the future you've left for us, are going to run things someday?
Not threatened, but fearful.

You're not white. Translation: I see everything by the color of one's skin.
I'm young. Translation: I have no worldly experience, yet I think I'm all knowing.
You're progressive. Translation: I'm a socialist, marxist, communist that believes in one world government.
You're open about your sexuality. Translation: I identify myself by my sexuality, and my decisions tend to be based on how that affects my pleasures.
You're not religious. Translation: I have no belief system in place to decide right from wrong. Therefore, I base right and wrong on my own desires, make decisions based on what makes me feel good, regardless of others.
You're not close to your family. No translation, just sadness that either you're that screwed up, or they are.
You like dense urban living. It's a free country. You can live anywhere you want to.
You don't look forward to a job out of high school. Translation: you don't look forward to a job ever, so you go to college to put off having to work for a living. You'd rather spend your days doing whatever you choose, but want others to pay for that lifestyle.
You require a (liberal) college education. Translation: you've fallen prey to your teachers propaganda, and now will spend much more money on your education than your education is worth.
You think middle class jobs are menial. Translation: that education has succeeded in indoctrinating you, and you've bought into the class warfare.
You think you are growing in influence. Translation: you've been raised to think you're special. That your thoughts and actions are superior, just because you breathe air. Get some world experience, then get back to me.
You are pro union. Translation: you are lazy, and secretly dream of a job that will pay you more than you're worth, give you all the benefits you need, and a lifetime job that you never can be fired, no matter your incompetence.
You support gay marriage. You are free to support it. Just give those that don't the same respect.
You are pro-choice. Get back to me when you have a child of your own.
You don't believe in fighting unjust wars. Translation: I think wars are unjust that are started by GOP presidents, but support wholeheartedly those started by Dem presidents.

Your comments prove to me that an education doesn't mean intelligence. And yes, I'm terrified that those like you might run our country someday. But I'm fighting every day to keep that from happening, just as conservatives did when the hippies of the 60's had the same mindset.

One plus to all this - you'll be the one supporting my retirement.

Why would you be threatened by liberalism? We're not talking extremist left wing here, and our liberals are relatively conservative by world standards.

Libertarian is one thing, but I don't see how extreme conservatism is better.

Hate to break it to ya, but you sound very typical "young person just finding out about politics"

I can totally out unique you.
I AM gay, and I AM non-religious but am pretty conservative. I am totally for same sex marriage (as well as adoption) because I have family values. I believe family is one of the most important things in our society. My twist is that I don't care if it's "2 daddies" or "2 mommies". Kids with TWO loving parents is important, versus some single mom who claims she is "nonindependent" and "dont need a man".. yet she's sucking the government dry for all of her assistance "needed".

I am slightly pro choice. 6 months abortion IS killing a baby.
Just because I am not religious (and very against religion), I do think that people's religion needs to be respected. This means that churches should not be forced to marry same sex couples.

Basically, I just believe in freedom. I think the government needs to have very little influence in our lives. Stop believing that Europe is some utopia, they are financially strapped just as bad. You know why? Eventually you run out of other people's money to spend.

Once you start working, and you see more and more of your money going to the government...and you start seeing neighbors and other people "living an easy life" and they are never lifting a finger or putting in an honest days work, you'll wake up.

Anyone who considers themselves educated will see and understand a system of what's "fair".

Living in a society where government forces people to do stuff and us paying to take care of everyone else.. is not fair.

Hopefully more people like me -- realists -- end up in power.

Fabulous post.

I have very similar views as you and am relatively young, though am not in the very youngest voting age demographic.

I'm straight - that's about the only difference between what you wrote and something I might write - but I absolutely support gay rights. I'm also not religious.

I think there are A LOT of younger Americans who feel the same.
