What conservatives choose to believe is that government intervention caused problems, while in fact, government intervention was a reaction to problems and market failures. Nobody woke up on day and said, "I feel like regulating something." Regulation was a reaction.
On poverty, poverty was far higher before programs existed to relieve poverty.

That $57 trillion only included household wealth, when you add ALL of the nation's wealthy I think they estimate it at $188 trillion. So 10% of this nation's wealth would more than pay off the national debt. Maybe we need a 1% tax on wealth for the next ten years.
Fact is that we Republicans want to lower taxes for everyone in this nation.
And they'd also like to see they country crumble. We don't need roads and bridges, schools, the courts, the police, the military, social security, ect. We can all form up neighbor tribes and put up toll booths for those passing by on our land. Who says you need governments?
