Growing wealth widens distance between lawmakers and constituents - The Washington Post

Quote:
Between 1984 and 2009, the median net worth of a member of the House more than doubled, according to the analysis of financial disclosures, from $280,000 to $725,000 in inflation-adjusted 2009 dollars, excluding home *equity.

Over the same period, the wealth of an American family has declined slightly, with the comparable median figure sliding from $20,600 to $20,500, according to the Panel Study of Income Dynamics from the University of Michigan.

Our govt is becoming more and more staffed with millionaires (income probably earned from investments).
Republicans want zero taxes on investment income. Conflict of interest here for the average hard-working taxpayer?

Voters keep sending them back. Career politicians walk the halls of Congress.
And you're upset ? Why, YOU are the ones re-electing them over and over.

It's not just Republicans. To say it's only one party is sheer nonsense or denial on your part.

No one in Congress wants to end the sweet insider trading deal they have..they are completely exempt from any insider trading laws.
How bogus is that seeing they are the very ones making laws that affect business ?

And of course, the dems are gladly donating their taxes as well? They'll all (both sides) just pass laws that will help them keep their money. When congress has to live by the same rules that they keep passing along to the general American public, we might actually get somewhere. Until that time... the government officials get richer all the while they have lemmings on each side that do their bidding. Just how much are these politicians worth?

Because, otherwise it would be socialism. Real Americans won't tolerate ANY of that.

This isn't a democrat/republican issue. Ask democrat lawmakers if they want to take a drastic pay cut, and see how many raised hands you get.

They're no idiots. Politicians sit and benefit out there not because they've a self-defeating attitude, but it is the populace that worships them and their whims... hey, they're among the hard working Americans! Their wealth (and an increase of) must prove it!

The zero tax on capital gains is a REPUBLICAN proposal. Really - isn't Fox reporting this?
