Because you have no idea what you're talking about?
I doubt you'll get any insight from this, but in case anyone else might, Al Franken explained it thus:
Quote:
|
[Conservatives] love America like a 4-year-old loves his mommy. Liberals love America like grown-ups. To a 4-year-old, everything Mommy does is wonderful and anyone who criticizes Mommy is bad. Grown-up love means actually understanding what you love, taking the good with the bad and helping your loved one grow. Love takes attention and work and is the best thing in the world. That’s why we liberals want America to do the right thing. We know America is the hope of the world, and we love it and want it to do well.
|
As much as I like Sen. Franken, I would suggest a somewhat different comparison. He's right that conservatives love their country like a 4-year-old loves his mommy. I would suggest, though, that the proper thing is to love your country, not the way a grown up loves his parents but the way a parent loves his child. Which may include (sometimes must include) criticism and correction.
Nobody would respect a parent who said "I love my child and I don't care if he becomes a cheat and a bully", or even think such a parent knew what love was all about. It's just as unseemly to love one's country in such a way.

Is it just to be different from the majority of Americans who are evil, bad, white, religious, conservatives? Is it because of their own inherent failures to succeed in the country of opportunity?
Is it Groupthink? An inability to reason since liberalism is a mental disorder?
It's very weird considering that most Democrats are trying to turn the exceptionalism of America into Euro-lite, even though many of them have never lived in or experienced Europe for any extended period, let alone visit on a few days' vacation time.
Why do they despise the country their families immigrated to and they were born into?
Democrats (and Liberals) Hate America
Who Says The Elites And Liberals Hate America? Oh, Wait! They Do
Rasmussen reports these poll results:Conservatives overwhelmingly believe that the United States is the last best hope. However, by a 43% to 29% margin, liberals disagree.
Just 31% of those in the Political Class see the United States in such positive terms (see more on the Political Class), compared to 58% of Mainstream voters.
Polling released earlier shows that only 45% of Political Class voters believe the United States is a more positive force in the world than the United Nations. Seventy-nine percent (79%) of Mainstream voters see America as a more positive force.

This type of post simply develops into name calling of the opposing group from both sides.
Why not write the OP asking what the liberal believe in and why? From there you can agree or disagree and state why YOU agree or disagree.
Saying that they hate American is not going make them stand up and suddently say. "geeesh! Wow! I did not know I was hating America! Sorry, I will now love America. What do you want me to say and do OP?"
The same I say to those in this thread that say the same about conservatives. I understand your reaction was due to the way the OP starts his thread. I do not know if he just wants to start an argument with no sincere intent of having a constructive debate or not but to say the least the method he used is not conducive to healthy discussion. Take care.

I consider myself to be liberal, but the only thing I really "hate" is misinformation such as this.
I enjoy free speech, I own guns, etc etc.
I definitely do not hate America, or the Bill of Rights, or the Constitution.

I'd like to think not. We were/are a nation built upon immigration and diversity. I see no reason we we shouldn't be able to put aside our differences. Tall order, I guess.

I wish we could get beyond all this childish crap of posting in absolutes and making false accusations, but alas, I don't see it happening. Bickering about liberals and conservatives hating America and each other only drives us farther apart.

Yes we fight amongst ourselves while the politicians make off with our money .
