They were bred for fighting other animals, (just like any hound, hunting dog, terrier or mastiff breeds, over 70% of all modern dogs, inf act) not humans. Claiming a pit bull is inherently dangerous because it was bred to fight other animals makes as much sense as claiming a coon hound must be a killer since it was bred to be a hunter. Plus, if they were bred to fight other animals, they would be even better around people. A person and a dog are very different.

People who ignore facts and jump to the conclusion that we should exterminate innocent...well...anything, should be ashamed of themselves.

Do people use pit bulls for hunting? Its called pit bull because its a fighting dog. Its actually people like you who are clueless because dogs bred for killing animals do not make good pets. People wonder why their pet fluffy bred for killing rats does not make a good pet. Terriers are small so I guess they make cutsie pets.

Can't have chickens in some neighborhoods. I certainly can't carry a Mossberg around but people want to walk their "hunting dogs", a euphemism for dogs bred for fighting in the neighbor hood. How about funny cars on the street while we are at it?

Let me be armed, and then dog owners may have their rights. Give me mine, and I'll give you yours. That's the real problem.

Geeez. I'm not a big fan of regulations; but I think these dogs need to be registered like guns.
I agree. There should be severe restrictions against owning Pit Bulls. Either that or just ban the ugly beasts.

Dog bites happen everyday but the ones done by Pit Bulls get all the press, kinda like the pretty, white girl, missing sydrome. I'll try to find the picture a few years when someone was attacked by two Pit Bulls in Philly and the news got the story wrong. One dog was clearly a Cane Corso and the other was a Boxer. I used to get crap from neighbors about my American Bulldog, because someone said " Its a Pit Bull" which clearly if you know dogs it wasn't. I can't imagine how hard it would be to find a 140lb Pit Bull. Until I see the dogs that did the attacking, I usually don't believe the story.

You have obviously done absolutely no research and are doing nothing more than going off of media hype. A pit bull is no more likely to attack a person than a lab, and if you read what I have posted, you would see why. But apparently you would rather stay ignorant than educate yourself. Answer me this, have you done any real reading on the breed? Talked to dog breeders/trainers/vets? Or did you see a few news stories and panic?

As of now if Animal protection services finds a pitbull on your property they will seize the dog and have it euthanized. The owner of the dog also faces a $500 fine & up to 6 months in jail for posessing a pit bull.
Every county and city in America should come up with such an ordinance. Way to go Miami-Dade.

There was a story around here a few years ago about a Chihuahua that jumped into a baby's crib and killed it. We should obviously ban all of them too, right?
