Eliminate all tax deductions, so that people will only have those big families when they can afford them. The child tax credit is like welfare for the working, lazy breeders.

Great ideas. How about well functioning schools in poor neighborhoods with facilities for kids to do their homework because there are none in their homes. Also, schools should be able to just kick out kids who are constant offenders. Don't waste time on them. Cut back any government funding, offering it only to families whose kids are in school or have completed such satisfactorily. This way welfare is tied to you becoming a responsible parent.

Please keep in mind the many people now on some form of government dole because of the bad economic situation that lack of proper regulation caused.

Geeze, have you ever HEARD some of those teachers in poor schools? Some cannot even handle their native language. In NY Bloomberg found gangs of teachers plus principles pocketing tax money rather than using it for funding education. The quality of education in this country leaves a LOT to be desired.

Kids born to the wealthy can plan for the future. They have lives whose goals are attainable for them and people to pave the way. Kids in slums see no goals or role models but sports figures, entertainers and drug dealers.

At least get decent teachers and kick the bad kids out of school and cut out their government assistance.

Because those who don't cut it in middle class neighborhoods just slide down into different area where the poor are. We don't have to see them or be influenced them and we have good police protection if they sneak back up here to commit crimes.

Those decent folks who are already poor must also deal with the derelicts and criminals. There is no 'down' from poor. It is much harder for them to see and plan for a good tomorrow.

I have a girlfriend who came from such an area. Her parents did not allow her to have any friends from the neighborhood or from school. All she knew was study and work. They only wanted the best for her but till this day she has a problem bonding.

So it can be done, to live in a poor neighborhood and work your way out of it, but it is very hard - much harder than the middle class has it.

They also have different demographics than the USA.
