They had to work to survive. Some women cleaned houses to earn money, took in ironing. I know -- because my grandmother did just that. My grandfather found work in another state temporarily. It beat laying around all day doing nothing I'm sure.

You don't even know...travel to Guatemala City, or Bogota, Colombia. Kidnappings for ransom are rampant in those places. Wealthy people have to travel around in armored cars and be escorted by private security with automatic rifles.

Why is welfare always blamed on "Liberals"? Republicans love welfare, it supports their cheap labor force. They expect people with children to live on ten bucks an hour, but of course they can't without foodstamps and help with their daycare ect.

Quit fooling yourself rightwingers, the repubs are just as guilty for this as liberals.

I don't believe that he are many people who "want" to be poor, they just haven't got the tools to prevent it.

It is our duty as a society to assure that all citizens are introduced to the tools that get one out of poverty.

Of course, you can lead a horse to water.......

Nope, I'll keep on doing what I've been doing. Working for a living, taking care of my family, and protecting what's mine.
Nice to see you bleeding hearts finally admiting you throw $$$ at the lame and lazy in the hopes you'll keep them out of your yard instead of doing it for the good of humanity.

The poor people in those countries don't have to travel around in armored cars. You're on the wrong track if you think any of that has to do with poverty, it has to do with cartel greed, and the rich drug lords have reason to fear.

In fact, you can go into some of the poorest areas of Mexico and be about as safe as you can be anywhere. Poor people are not automatically thugs. Sometimes they are the better people.

Not if it doesn't show up for work. And seriously, what is one supposed to get paid for stocking a shelf or 20? Ringing up groceries? Answering a phone? Cleaning a bathroom? $100K/year?

What people? People who live off of others from the get-go and have kids they never could afford or people who fell on hard times?

Not even close.

Also a couple years ago, Phoenix, Arizona -- not Bogata or Guatemala City -- was the Number 2 kidnapping capital of the world.

I would like to know, how do you feel about the free services we offer to illegals in this Country, what do you think about that.

Kind of harsh, there are some people who truly need the help and are medically ill, and children need to eat. I am not for those who use our system, but some need these services until they get on their feet. Some do use them, and then do get on their feet.

I think you have a problem with those who do not have any intenetions of bettering their own life.

Perhaps there should be a time limit on how long we offer help to the needy. But those who are truly sick and cannot work, do need the help. I never want to see a child starve, that is just cruel.

No free services should be offered to illegals.
