Ok, if you say so. Can you provide some evidence?

By the way here is article about the reunification negotiations.

Germany has only existed since 1871. If you include the Franco-Prussian war, France was invaded by Germany three times. However, if you look at previous centuries, it tended to be France invading various German states rather than the other way around.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I was talking of recent Centuries. But I think you underestimate the animosity that still exists in Europe over Germany considering the past. And many Europeans feared and still fear a to strong Germany.

Of course I can prove it, read your link, Thatcher was firmly against it, yet it happened anyway. Because the the US wanted East Germany in Nato, that was only going to happen as part of unification.

Of course you can't prove Germany was intimidated into the Euro by France.

Lol, not terribly convincing, from your link.
"However, Wolfgang Schaeuble, a former close aide to Kohl, who was German chancellor from 1982 to 1998, and current finance minister, denied that there was any closed-door deal done."

In any event Unification happened before the Maastricht treaty.

Of course he denies it. He is in the current administration. Why would he stir the pot? The documents however say otherwise. The Maastricht treaty was negotiated short before the introduction of the Euro. The idea of a European single currency came in the mid 80's.

Who cares about when the idea came about? The actual vote on it came after unification. The German's, like the much sharper British could have voted it down, they didn't. The British have no need to feel inferior to the bumbling Germans, who you claim were intimidated by the French. How humiliating!

I don't know how accurate that is. Did the Saxons really wipe out a large number of natives when they invaded? There have been no findings of mass graves. The "Germanic" stock of Britain is just as likely to come from the Vikings & Normans. Appearance wise, Brits look more like the northern French.

I see no harm in Germany's power. Britain's banking system is just as predatory as ours. If they had their way, they'd pull out of Europe completely and do things the way we do things. Germany is a highly successful country and one of the most advanced on earth. Britain never got over its Victorian class division and its society suffered social and moral decay under Thather.

The British shouldn't feel inferior - they should learn a thing or two from Germany, IMO.
