My question is why aren't we taxing these people when it appears that they have so much money to burn in idiotic fashions? Are we supposed to feel sorry for the likes of Paris Hilton, this Elin gal and the Kardashians?
So... you want to tax them because they are spending their money as they like but you disagree with it? I hate to break it to you, but how they spend their own money is not up to you.

What would you tax them for?

Happiness tax, maybe?

Think of how many jobs they are creating by spending their money.

If OP had posted a story about them saving money, that would be one thing. But, really, OP should be thrilled that they're spending so much.

Yeah, and murderers create jobs for morgue attendants, undertakers, etc., eh?

Just another andorsemnegt of trickle-down voodoo where people pee on your head and try and convince you it's raining.

If Elin Nordegren was subject to 5% more tax on her money, she STILL would have tore down the mansion (which was beautiful to begin with). Maybe there'd be a little less gold plate on the chandeliers in the new house.

She'd STILL have plenty of money to do as she pleases.... it's just that the construction workers who will be working to build her new home (hopefully, something that will be more attractive than the home she "designed" for Tiger and herself a few towns away) might be able to send their kids to better staffed and equipped schools while working on the project. Or their kids might have access to more youth programs, or more financial aid might be available for those looking to go to college, so they too don't have to work construction, tearing down old mansions and building new mansions for rich people.

As opposed to giving your money to government?

Giving?

BS!

I happen to enjoy things like the Interstate System, the benefits of the Air Traffic Control System, a national defense system, etc., I'm not so blind as you to not realize those things must be paid for somehow.

What I object to is paying more so the wealthy can pay less in order that they can knock down mansions to build ever bigger ones.

You realize life-spans are still only in the 70-80 year range, right?
