The following are the only Senators who voted against the amendment to prevent the President from shutting down Guantanamo. Clearly it is an uphill battle to correct this travesty.

U.S. Senate: Legislation & Records Home > Votes > Roll Call Vote

90 - Yea
6 - Nay

Durbin (D-IL)
Harkin (D-IA)
Leahy (D-VT)
Levin (D-MI)
Reed (D-RI)
Whitehouse (D-RI)

It will take proponents of Bush 3.0 to push that agenda.
If you want people to respond to your posts try to write something coherent.

Thanks!

So roughly 40 repubs, 1 independant and 49 dems voted for it. (forgive me if I screwed up the rough count)
3 more dems did not vote (Kennedy, Rockefeller and Byrd)

We aren't making ourselves safer by detaining these people without trial.

I take it that this...

I guess, it would be politically inconvenient to mention that and everything that followed. No?
Then, you're only going to complain about lack of coherence.

On a positive note... the light may still be out there...

Yup. 90 Senators collectively wet their pants at the thought. Home of the Brave.

They can afford to, and get away with enough stupid enabling it.

What do you people who want it closed
propose to do with the prisoners? Let em go?
Send em back? Send em to SuperMax?
You tell me. If they remain in custody,
what the heck difference does it make
what zip code they reside in? Do you kind,
compassionate liberals want them released?

We should trust our system of justice. If we can't convict them in a court with a jury of their peers, then we shouldn't be holding them.

If they are foreign citizens and not subject to United States law, then we shouldn't be holding them either.

Until we declare war on a country, we shouldn't be holding any of their citizens without trial. We haven't declared war since Korea.
