The scary thing is he was truly in line to become President one day. If Kerry had won, you can be assured Edwards would have likely won at some point in the future. And even after Kerry had lost, many felt like Edwards was a strong candidate, certainly stronger than Obama but weaker than Hillary prior to the start of the 2008 Democratic primary. He was charismatic and well spoken.
I think it's a delay tactic. As a cardiologist, I can tell you that anything related to the heart is life threatening. He could be getting a stent placement which is technically a life threatening procedure but also routine and statistically very safe. The recovery time for this fairly quick too. This will allow time to arouse sympathy for Edwards from the public and any jury. It's possible he could have something more serious like multiple vessel disease which requires bypass surgery or some rare congenital defect but I'm guessing not. I have no facts on his case and this is just my opinion and I am not intending to claim I know anything about his case.
Edwards is a brilliant trial lawyer so he will take any advantage he can at the moment. The sad thing is, this tactic will benefit him. It will arouse sympathy for him and he will get a tap on the wrist and then he will probably write a book about his struggles with he with his family on the cover.
Edwards is such a sleaze...I can not stand it. Hopefully this strategy won't work and he gets convicted.
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Ex-presidential candidate John Edwards has a life-threatening heart condition that will require surgery next month, his doctor told a judge presiding over Edwards' upcoming court case over possible campaign violations.
A cardiologist for the 58-year-old ex-North Carolina Senator wrote two letters about his condition to Judge Catherine Eagles who talked about them Friday during a hearing to consider whether the trial would go on later this month. She delayed it until at least March 26.
Did you know how he made his money? He sued OBGYN's implying babies developed cerebral palsy because the physicians in those cases didn't perform timely C-sections. There was no conclusive evidence proving that failure to deliver those children by C-section resulted in them developing cerebral palsy. He played to the emotions of an uninformed jury. As a result of lawsuits like the ones Edwards filed, the number of C-sections tripled in number yet the incidence of cerebral palsy is unchanged. You can thank Edwards for women receiving unnecessary C-sections now in addition to a lot of OBGYN's quitting the obstetrics portion of their practice and only practicing gyn because the risks of practing obstetrics increases each year thanks to frivolous lawsuits like the ones Edwards filed.
Apparently the judge and jury disagreed with you. Frivolous lawsuits get thrown out of court. Certainly there were medical experts testifying on each side. The jury obviously agreed with the experts on Edwards' side and thought they were more believable.
