Gotta love election years. While I personally have very mixed feelings about this, I applaud the president for continuing to play the 'long game.'
One more talking point off the table.

"(CNN) -- The federal government Thursday announced plans to sell off oil and gas leases on 38 million acres of the Gulf of Mexico sea floor in a new domestic energy push by the Obama administration."

I don't have a problem w/ us drilling for oil, but for the love of God, start claiming some of that oil for American refineries. I'm pretty sure a lot of other countries that allow drilling on Federal lands takes a cut of the oil in addition to "rent" for drilling.

Oil is not an emerging industry. They don't need handouts, subsidies, credits, or any of the other things that are done to prop up new businesses until they get their cash flow in order.

They opened those lands up in 2009 already, but then we had the BP disaster, and they put the projects on hold. Now it seems they are opening them up again.

Obama has never been opposed to drilling, just irresponsible drilling (especially when it comes to environmental concerns and deep water drilling). And that is how pragmatism works.

What's sickening is that this is 100% political. Do you really support a President whose policy is predicated on his re-election? Yes, all President's do this, but that's our problem. Nothing matters....just the individual.

Call me digusted. Because I am.

Not entirely, no, we absolutely cannot and the president is still not saying that we can.

From the link:

"Obama will push for greater use of cleaner-burning natural gas as an automotive fuel for trucks and buses, and new support for renewable energy sources such as solar or wind power, the White House said Thursday. The administration also will open up public lands to renewable electric projects aimed at producing enough power for 3 million homes."

And he is right on that too. It takes a functioning brain to combine the two arguments and make sense out of it.

This means NOTHING. Oil companies have all the LEASES they need for the next 20 years. The problem is the federal government refuses to issue any PERMITS TO DRILL.
